an art class and 3 other classes

my school works on an A-day/B-day block schedule so we take all eight classes all year long - finals usually hurt my year grade

ECs- Varsity Tennis, Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society), Junior Class Council, National Society of Black Engineers, HOSA(won 1st place in sports medicine regional competition, 3rd place in state competition), Unity Club, Outward Bound alum, athletic trainer, Junior Marshal (reserved for top 5% of class), National Honor Society, founder of Campus Greens chapter at my school (organization associated with the Green Political Party), Spanish Honor Society, Muslim Student Association (I am not a Muslim but I like helping the Muslim members of my community, especially here in the south) – I am obviously not active in all of these right now - this is a list of the clubs that I have joined and been active in over the past 3 years

hoping to go into urban planning/revitalization

you're in - definitely

You will almost certainly be accepted. You didn't mention if you were in-state or out. If you are in-state, RU is a safety. If you are out of state, RU is a match. Are you looking at other schools?

out of state- and yeah i'm looking at nyu, university of maryland, upenn, wesleyan, and bard--of course unc charlotte and chapel hill as well as appstate are on my list too...i live in north carolina

It's definitely harder to get into Rutgers from out-of-state, but I stil think RU is a match and that you are highly likely to get in. You are looking at a good spectrum of places. Plan to visit as many as possible because I think that the feel or (or "vibe" as my son would say) of a campus is very difficult to preceive from a website or pamphlet. Also, it would be best to visit during the school year when the place is busy with kids. It's going to be hard for any place to beat the value of UNC with an in-state tuition, but if you have the motivation to explore a new area I think that you will likely receive some merit-based scholarshis as incentives. Do you have an area of interest or are you undifferentiated at this point? Not that it matters too much since many students change their mind after they start college.

i'm highly interested in becoming an urban planner- focusing on developing countries and/or urban revitalization. I realize that if I do pursue this career I am looking at, at least going back to school for my masters which will come with loans of its own. I would love to go to school in a place that is totally different from Charlotte or North Carolina for that matter but money is always an object.

Good for you. I think it's great to stretch a little for college and expand your horizons. Definitely a positive. I can see why you are interested in Rutgers. They have a very strong urban studies section. Are you considering Livingston College of RU? In the past, urban studies was especially keen there, but I think it is a strength throughout RU

i looked into one of the schools but i'm not sure which one it was...so it was probably livingston...thanks collegedad

a senior at my school got into rutgers. i have no clue how. here are his stats: 3.5 weighted, no APs (even though 15 are offered at my school), white, out of state, baseball maybe varsity for a year or two, 1250 sat, sat 2 scores 600s. i dont know what his hook was but you're in.

yeah that seems like a guy that slipped under the radar...thanx johnthan

bumpetybump

you're in. just make sure you still put effort into your app!

bumpety bumpety bump

My neighbor got into Rutgers a few years ago with horrible stats. Barely even a 3.0 GPA, B- student, no honors or AP classes, an SAT so bad that she wouldn't even tell me what it was, no extracurriculars...

But I did hear that Rutgers has raised its standards a LOT in the past couple of years.
