So... seeing as Harvard is the number 1 school in the world, do people dress much nicer than they do at a less prestigious college?

T-shirt? Polos? Dress pants? Suits? What do these people wear?

So... seeing as Harvard is the number 1 school in the world, do people dress much nicer than they do at a less prestigious college?

T-shirt? Polos? Dress pants? Suits? What do these people wear?

really thick glasses. and pocket protectors. or is that MIT?

kidding! They probably dress like students at any other school, except they occasionally wear sweatshirts that say "harvard."

They actually wear nothing. They go naked.

they're so smart that they don't need clothes.

This question is really funny. Now, the more prestigious a university is, the better the people dress? I'm told that all the kids who go to top colleges are also more attractive...because they're highly-ranked, right?

The kids wear the exact same thing that every other college student wears. My son wears flip flops, shorts and t-shirts in warmer months and jeans, sweatshirts, long sleeve t-shirts in the colder months. We're from California so he tends to be very very casual.

North Face fleece with jeans seems to be haute couture there. However, there may be something to the correlation of top colleges with attractiveness. All the top colleges require interviews as part of the admissions process, and while interviewers aren't instructed to look for physical attractiveness, it's a hard thing to ignore when you're developing an overall evaluation of a candidate. I've also noticed that obesity is extremely rare at H.

Actually Baelor, Harvard has the least attractive students.

I would second that there are very few obese kids here. I think that has more to do with the perfectionist culture.

"Actually Baelor, Harvard has the least attractive students."

I know, it was a joke. Sometimes my sarcasm doesn't come through. :P

*** do you mean "what do they wear?" They wear normal clothe like you and I. I motion for fail thread.

This thread proves how f-ed up people are about Harvard.
It's just a college after all.

"Suits???" MBA Harvard students don't wear suits in class, unless they have a presentation (just like everywhere else), let alone some english major freshman.

People, seriously, relax.. This guy is probably just concerned about what to wear if he possibly gets into Harvard.. He isn't the only one who is afraid that Harvard is some sort of intimidating place where everyone dresses in Armani from top to toe for class and has won the pulitzer prize. You could've helped him out, like some of you did.

I have to admit that you made me laugh at times though.

They don't wear P.J. pants to class like at some schools of which my D is very happy about!

Otherwise, casual is good.

lol. i think it's funny. i mean what do you think they'd wear, honestly?
i'm not trying to be rude, but i just wanna know what you were thinkin--
but my guess, is that they wear, possibly jeans, and maybe a shirt? unless they're frat boys. who knows

I agree, the original poster just wants to know what to wear in case of being accepted to Harvard...

You're right about (generally) no PJs/sweats/etc. to class; we normally just wear regular clothes, maybe a little more dressed up than normal but not by much. North Face stuff is popular here (it gets annoying after a while). Kennedy School of Government people tend to wear "power suits" but again, I think it is only on presentation days. It's a good idea to have a wide selection of interview/black-tie clothes for various events, but generally everyday clothes can range from t-shirts and jeans to much dressier. People really don't look at you twice unless you're inappropriately dressed for an event.

What's up with the kids in suits though? There are some groups of Japanese people in those suits, and I also saw some other kid in a suit. Oh yea, it's funny how people changed "assistance" to "ass dance"

People in the Professional world often wear suits. Some students feel that wearing a suit presents a certain image of professionalism. There is nothing wrong with it.

Sidenote (in response to an earlier poster): Harvard does not have frats. At all. Zero. None. They have the house system instead lol

Harvard has them, but does not officially recognize the off-campus fraternities (4), sororities(3) men's final clubs (7?), and women's final clubs (4). Only the men's and one women's final clubs have houses (non-residential) where parties are held. These groups do not dominate the social scene--but are definitely a presence as they provide space and/or events throughout the year. (Google Harvard final clubs/frats/sororities for details. Also The Crimson, and CC have articles on them.)
