Adding to fauve's post, both the Greeks and the Final Clubs hold a number of social events at which the attendees dress up in formal attire.

maroon polos with a white sweater tied and resting on your shoulder. Wait, thats what the parents wore when attending a lacrosse game!

Actually Baelor, Johns Hopkins has the ugliest girls. A few are 10's, then its all downhill. Luckily, Loyola and Towson are 10 minutes away.

They wear Gucci and Bottega Veneta in the cold winter and Dsquared and Roberto Cavalli in summer days, for more casual outfits...lol

"Actually Baelor, Harvard has the least attractive students."
superdrive021 , I think I'll change that when If I get admitted to Harvard =].

Some of the houses have formal events as well.

ok so a serious answer to this question:
kids wear whatever is comfortable (typically t-shirt and jeans). the one time i wore a button down people asked me why i was so dressed up and it was really awkward. before this time it starts getting cold, it's all t-shirts and shorts (highschool stuff is ok). afterwards, get a nice jacket and a hat and you're set.

nothing! XD jk <or am="" i?=""></or>

I've also noticed that obesity is extremely rare at H.

What's up with the kids in suits though? There are some groups of Japanese people in those suits, and I also saw some other kid in a suit.

they're called tourists

no i kinda get it. like people have told me that harvard kids dress REALLY PREPPY. popped collars and all that. which is weird cuz people at my school dress like they live in the hood.

i have not seen a single person wear a popped collar here. just for the record.

I second token89- I've never seen a popped collar here. I see very few students I would consider "very preppy."

My typical outfit is jeans, khakis or grey pants and a black or grey collared or t-shirt. When I've worn button-downs (comfortable ones- Levi's or Timberland and the like), some people will ask me why I'm dressed up. When it comes to clothing, Harvard is not at all unusually preppy, rich, or nerdy.

good to know! but harvard does have the whole "prep" stereotype. i'm glad it's not actually like that

Columbia is....kinda. Well, for the girls. I blame Gossip Girl.

I totally wore my pj's to class today, then again, I had a midterm and they were closer to work out gear than real pj's. In general, I'd say clothing style is less preppy and more "put together" or "cold-as-hell bohemian". Lots of scarves, shiny jewelry, and ridiculously thick-framed glasses. It all depends on your concentration, of course.

do you mean at columbia?

i'm really not used to the whole prep thing, or even the whole "put together" thing. usually when i go to school i throw on some sweats and hit the door.

also those thick-framed glasses are kind of a pet peeve of mine. no offense to anyone, of course.

Hahaha @phish

Luis is going to be the U.S president. (someday)

^That's what Steve wants to be as well hahaha

staris, calm down a bit. The last post on this thread was written almost 5 years ago, so these people have possibly not looked at this site in ages. The question is a little silly, however. I would understand, “What do people at Harvard wear in winter?” or “Do people get really dressed up for formal events?”, but the question as it stands really only warrants the answer “Clothing.”

Also, work on that who/whom distinction. I’m assuming that you are a foreign student. A trick that works most of the time is this: use “who” in front of a verb and “whom” if the next word is a noun. It’s not foolproof, but it will get you through 95% of who/whom issues. And if you are not sure, just use “who”. This is what happens when I haven’t taught for 2 weeks. My apologies to all, but I don’t want staris messing up his/her applications. Good luck to you!
