What do people do about can't-miss TV shows?

Aludaughter will be in a single next year, so there is no living room in a suite with joint roommate TV purchase option. She has a couple of can't-miss TV shows. What is the common practice? Is there one public TV that you can be guaranteed will be tuned to the OC, one that you can guarantee will be tuned to Lost!, and one that you can guarantee will be tuned to Desperate Housewives? Just a few possibilities.

Or do most kids actually have their own TVs? Horrors.

well, princeton grants the basic four networks free. theres gotta be a cable outlet in the room. otherwise there should definitely be other people nearby with cable access.

I'm concerned with the same thing, Alummother; despite a drastic decline in quality in the last two seasons, I'm totally hooked on the West Wing. Of course, in my case I have a rabid "Wingnut" friend living at Rutgers twenty minutes away, so perhaps we can manage to keep up between the two of us.

On a more helpful note, can't one roommate just bring a TV? I can't imagine it would detract from studying/social life too much.

TEVO or download....watch 'em on the computer.

If you can't afford TiVO in your own house, how do you expect a college kid to have it?

And not everyone thinks downloading episodes is such an ethical thing to do.

A room mate can bring a TV. I am bringing a TV.

Parents won't let me bring my tv...but if the shows that are can't miss for you are on the basic channels that princeton offers, you can get a small tv for not that much money. Or you can get a tv tuner for your computer.

You're missing the point:

However, in lieu of roommates, she could try contacting hallmates... the Facebook might just work for that.

So are there no TVs in common areas except Frist? What about any of the common areas in Butler? I am thinking of getting her a flat panel monitor to watch DVDs but that is still not fixing the TV issue. A TV tuner for the computer? Does Apple have such a thing??? But anyway, solitary TV watching is kind of sad. I'm still hoping to find a communal opportunity. You're right, hallmates would be good.

a tv tuner card is a real good option

I have one, and it came with a program that turns my computer into a TiVO

After recording shows, I upload them to the "My Shared" folder to share those TV shows on limewire and KaZaA.

Copyright infringement be damned!

technically all of the residential colleges are supposed to have communal tvs, but the reality is that they don't. the tv rooms are locked or were taken apart (because of theft/vandalism). the best thing to do is to either find hallmates with a tv or going on point.princeton.edu. On tigetrade you can find small tvs for under 50 bucks.

There are tv tuners that work with macs, but they get kind of expensive, and I don't know if you'll find it worthwhile if you're only watching 4 channels.

you should probably just download the tv shows off of bittorrent b/c you don't even know if your free time will align with when the show is on the air

what's bittorrent?

long live the technologically challenged.

It's a program for downloading files...except you can't search with it, you have to find the files on the internet yourself.

Unless you use something like Bitlord.

You can't search on bitlord either, can you?

Of course you can search on Bitlord! How else do you think I got Batma--

I mean... how else do you think I... um. Performed a search?

www.tvtorrents.com

I am told the whole campus practically shuts down for one show; I think it's the OC. There is a huge TV in Frist where people gather to watch together. There are TVs all over campus. Some have TV in their rooms. The eating clubs also have TVs. There are gatherings for big games and there were group screenings of the Presidential elections. Not to worry...

My must see: 24.
