What do people do for fun?

What do you people do for fun in Amherst (including the town, not just the campus)? Because the campus seemed pretty small, so it seems that if you really want to do anything crazy you’d have to go to UMass or to Hampshire College (they had a beer keg hunt for their last Easter party, I heard).

Or does everyone just sort of sit in their dorms/library and study all day and night?

No, people do not just study all night and day. In fact, I don't remember that many Friday's and Saturday's where I actually did any schoolwork. There's plenty of parties on the Amherst campus itself, so you don't need to go to UMass and Hampshire for those kind of things. They also show a movie every weekend, Thursday-Sunday, at the campus center, and the library has a pretty good collection of DVD's for you to check-out. There's also usually free concerts/plays/lectures of some sort too.

My dorm last year (North) also had a board game thing going on every weekend as well, but that's probably just my dorm.

As for town...I actually don't think there's too much except for restaurants. I got most of my entertainment on campus last year, and I think most students do as well (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

But you know, people here do the same fun things as anyone else, I would think. They chill with their friends, play sports outside (weather permitting), and attend any of the events I just listed above if they feel like it. It's probably not as exciting as living in a city or what not, but there's plenty to do.

There are bars in town when you turn 21/get a good fake ID. There are always parties on campus. I never went to UMass or Hampshire, actually. There was always enough to do, although you're free to use the free buses to get to those colleges.

We have a lot of people that both study and party hardcore, and you'll find a few people that only do one of the two. Bottomline, you won't be lacking parties on campus, but I do think it's a good idea to get some variety in your social activities once in a while by visiting the other 4 colleges. Pshhhh, what do you think they're for, education?
