I mean, my wardrobe consists -seriously- of Abercrombie, Hollister, and Forever 21. But from what I heard not alot of people wear Abercrombie or American Eagle. Also I know jeans aren't allowed but do teachers still let students get away with it? I have some casual dresses from Forever 21 but not wearing jeans?? Seems ccrraazzyy to me. >.<

Jeans are definitely allowed, as long as they're not ripped or anything like that. Dresses are good but they're not going to be very useful for most of the year unless you have leggings and sweaters to with them.

A lot of people wear J. Crew and Ralph Lauren- it's a prep school, people dress preppy. However, there are a significant number of people who wouldn't go near a polo shirt with a 10-foot pole. Really, it's up to you. I was generally a fan of jeans and some sort of sweater- a big, comfy pullover for winter term, or a lighter cardigan for spring term. Some people dress up a lot more than others. The key thing to know, though, and I didn't realize this when I was starting at Exeter, either, is that jeans are absolutely fine, and are a staple of pretty much everyone's wardrobe.

does anyone know about this at other schools?
at some i've heard that you can't wear actual blue jeans, but black/other colored jeans are fine...

Many schools post their dress codes on their websites.

At Exeter, how casual can you go? Pretty much, how much can you get away with? Does it really actually matter if you aren't preppy? How often do girls wear skirts?

for a guy, how much shirts, ties, jeans, pants, suits do you suggest we get?
Also, what do you think about buying those shirts from american eagle and abercrombie because its very hard to find size XS guys shirts.

You can go pretty casual at Exeter. Obviously if you're a guy you have to have a collared shirt and a tie, so there's not much room for variation. For girls, I've seen people get away with wearing sweatpants. It'll depend on your teachers- you'll figure out pretty quickly which ones are strict and which aren't. Honestly, if you wear jeans and a plain t-shirt (no writing on it), chances are no one will say anything. A lot of teachers will let you get away with sweatshirts during winter term. There are a few teachers who are strict, but you'll figure out who they are pretty quickly.
Girls wear skirts a lot. Usually mini skirts (as in, not dressy skirts). And you definitely don't have to be preppy. I wasn't, when I first went. I'm definitely preppier now- polos and oxfords grow on you. But don't feel pressured to go spend all your money at J. Crew. Plenty of people wear American Eagle or Abercrombie.

hey what's the skirt length for exeter? 4 inches above the knee or to your finger-tips? and do people follow it?

If there is a skirt length, I have no idea what it is. Taste is key.

Usually the older/more conservative teachers care about dress code, and I've seen people actually sent back to their dorm because they weren't "properly" dressed. Usually, though, that meant a guy with no tie on or something. No teacher will ever rag on you for wearing jeans, I can guarantee that. In fact, jeans are basically all I wear there.

Do girls often times wear dresses too maybe?

re dresses: YES, but mostly in the spring

you know, if it weren't for the collared shirts for boys, I think Andover and Exeter's dress code would be exactly the same. Not like Deerfield...

What's with Deerfield?

How often do people of the male populace forget their ties?

It sounds to me like the best idea is to just take what you own already, Abercrombie and American Eagle included, and then reassess your wardrobe come Thanksgiving Break. Then you know what's "in" and "out."

Deerfield has a very strict, maintained dress code, and one of the few where it actually affects girls. No jeans, no sweatpants, no tee-shirts, boys must wear jacket and tie, girls mostly dress in skirts, nice pants, and collared shirts.
Not a bad thing, just different.

So now we all have a rough idea of what is usually worn at Excalibur, but for those of us who don't trust our fashion and were home schooled for a portion of their life: what is too MUCH in regards to clothes? what is not enough?

Well, in regards to bringing to school or fashion wise (crazy fashions, plain Jane, ??)?

Fashion wise. Ballroom gown/t-shirt used to paint.
