I wouldn't wear a ballroom gown. Or a tshirt used to paint.
Typical outfit that would go at any school's dress code?
Collared, long sleeve white button down shirt with a light sweater over it with dark blue, straight leg jeans that are clean and untorn.
Of course, that may be a tad unformal for some schools, or waaay dressy for others, but generally you'd be safe.

LOL! This thread is hilarious!

I would go with cords instead of jeans. Jeans are unacceptable at a couple of schools. And you wouldn't look out of place (as in, too formal) anywhere. Andover is strictly casual, but that doesn't mean girls don't wear pretty dressy sundresses, and plenty of our boys wear shirts and ties, some on their own accord.

excalibir? weird nickname 4 exeter?

Exeter sounded about 50 gazillion times too uptight, formal, and fancy schmancy for me when I first heard about the school, so I had to call it Exeter for a month or two to warm up to the idea. The name has stuck.

like the sword or the vegas hotel?

Sword, most definitely.

Bump.

I was accepted to Exter and Deerfield’s today and chose the former. I was just wondering…Are light blue jeans allowed?

OF COURSE NOT! Only Prussian Blue jeans hemmed in Indonesia and dyed in Seychelles are allowed. D:<

Haha jk Determined. I was accepted too and am way too excited. Good luck!

This sounds like a dumb question, but is the dress a major part of the social culture. If you dress a little more quirky or less preppy, will you be disowned or chastised. (If so, who really cares?)

“turf dogs, mid calves, nice shorts, and a lax penny with croakies and a sweet pair of shades” ultimate lax bro

on a serious note this isnt an exact comparison but my friend before choate wore nike sbs and jeans and t shirts. now he wears sperry, brooks brothers, RL polo, vineyard vines, nautica, orvis and other super-preppy stuff. i think that there is great pressure to conform to fit in socially. just what i observed

I’m a bit uncomformist myself. :P

But thanks for the sarcastic replies! (And I really mean that!)

How many polos is too many? What about blouses? I was thinking about buying a few polos from different stores (Nautica, Abercrombie, Ralph Lauren, Lacoste…etc). Where do all of you guys find polos?

And where could I find blouses?

I’m a chick if you didn’t notice from the above message btw!

I don’t own one polo, and probably won’t be getting any. Not a polo person. :B But I get most of my blouses from dELIA’s! 8) They have AWESOME spring stuff each year. I also shop at Express, Banana Republic, and Anne Taylor <– they have good blouses too, but in a different style than, say, A&F.

Hcos, that worries me. I don’t ever wear super mainstream stuff like A&F (except jeans), because they all look the same after a while. And are expensive. D: And I never even heard of Vineyard Vines until CC.

Pretty much all of my jeans are from American Eagle…good jeans at like, half the price of a&f. Other than that I get tons of stuff from Forever 21 and random stores. However, thanks to the Exeter dresscode I will be buying new clothes. My wardrobe consists mostly of flowy tops, skinny jeans, and flats.

We don’t have a Delia’s here! I’ll probably get most of my stuff at Belks or JCrew, and anywhere else I can find stuff that fits the dresscode (online shopping ftw). We do have Express, Anne Taylor, and Banana Republic though, so I’ll check out those stores :3

i cant wait to go shopping for exeter!
i have nice clothes but i dont everything in my wardrobe would be ok, only a few things

Another question: Are boys allowed to wear earrings in Exeter? Like just simple ones like studs or silver loops?

Anyone have an answer? [bump]

I like cheap clothes. No shirts over $10 or pants over $20. I don’t care if I look cheap, I think I can dress nicely without fancy brands.

Yeah i only own abercrombie and fitch clothing and hollister (seriously i dont wear anything else). And i heard exeter is abercrombie heaven that all you see there its discusting
