What do the admitted students need to do at this point for early action schools?

If someone is admitted early to Harvard, what steps student and parents have to follow if they are going on financial aid

Mail the card by May 1st, 2007 to show the intention of being enrolling.

File the FAFSA application as soon as w-2/tax information is available

Fill the tax forms for parents and the admitted student (if they worked in 2006)

Put the actual figures in the profile application and send the tax documents by using i-document service at the College Board.

What else needs to be done? We are trying to be cautious by staying on top of paper work requirements. I am sure other parents would have similar question who are going to colleges on aid. Thanks for your help.

I think you've stated it all in your post. Be prepared to adjust any figures that have changed since you filed the approximated figures with College Board. You'll receive a letter from Harvard in the next few days with an estimated financial aid award. Their aid tends to be quite generous in comparison to other colleges. Since your student was admitted Early Action, s/he now has several polished essays and plenty of time to look for outside scholarships. Go to the Fast Web website and sign up to receive periodic listings of outside scholarships for which your student can apply. Harvard will expect your student to cover the first $5250 of cost through their own savings and work, but the first $5250 of outside scholarship s/he receives can cover that portion, freeing up the time they would have worked at a job for other things (like study abroad in the summer?). Then, if your student can generate an additional $2500 in outside scholarships, s/he will be able to apply it on a one-time basis only to the purchase of a computer, printer, and computer supplies. If your student is in at Harvard Early Action, s/he'll be able to generate $7750 in outside scholarships with no trouble.

Harvard came with a very generous offer with $$$$$ in financail aid. I have checked financial aid requirements of other need blind colleges and they pretty much awards same aid pacakges. Thanks for the following information as this will allow us to defer some cost for printer, computer etc. (every aid $ is valuable to us).

I did not know this part and thank you for letting me know. My kid would try to bring more than $7,750 in outside scholarships. Let us see what her hard work and god's grace bring to her.

She already have $1000 in her pocket from a scholarship payble to college. Thanks agian for valuable information.
