A school I am applying to gives options for essay questions you can answer - you can write about any topic of your choice, or you can write about your reasons for transferring, etc. (what do you wish you had known before college? etc.)
I briefly explain my reasons for transferring in a previous short-answer question, so would it be better to use this other essay as an opportunity to convey my personality, etc. by writing about a topic of my choice, or should i reiterate my reasons for transferring?
any help is appreciated! thank you!!

first off, your transfer reasons are important to all colleges. if you feel the short answer question insufficiently allowed you to talk about your reasons, then go ahead w/ the “why i want to transfer” essay. You run the risk of repeating past info, though.

however, i think the ‘write about any topic’ section is more high risk/high reward. personally, i would choose that option, since it allows you more freedom. they probably expect something college related, so I would surprise them with something like…(If I could burn anything, it would be my life savings, b/c…)

Your reasons for transferring are very important but tend to make for dry essays. So, if you feel like you’ve made your points in the short answers, rather than rehash the same material, be creative and tell them another aspect about yourself.
