I have an interview to get into Miss Porter's School, but it won't be at the school. I was just wondering if someone knows something( BAD OR GOOD) about this school. Expect for the fact that it is an ALL GIRLS school.

My daughter just graduated. She had a great 4 years at Porter’s. It is a wonderful community. Good luck with your interview.

Miss Porter’s is close enough to the boys at Avon Old Farms–but not too close! it’s a great school from all accounts.

thxss shelley14

I don’t have personal knowledge about Miss Porter’s, but read an interesting article in Vanity Fair about the school early this summer. Might be worth reading . . .

@ELY so wat u r tryin to say is taht it is a bad school?!!

I had my interview from Miss porter’s and it went so great for a first interview that even my interview said so.

ELY: My mother also read that article! She won’t let me apply there because of it!

I don’t think it is fair to make judgments based on one article. There are some very satisfied Miss Porter’s parents on this board. I recommend a search on the forum and some more research. Good luck!

i agree with you but I don’t think I could convince my mother. When she makes up her mind…

No, I’m not saying it is a “bad School”. I just think reading the article gives you insight into the culture & traditions of the school. Yes, many are happy there; just think that informing yourself helps ensure you’re a good fit. Does that make sense?

@ELY- It makes sense…And I really appreciated it. At least MPS is not my top choices.

While the article was well written, I found it had many untruths.

That article is certainly entertaining, but everything I have heard from my sister, mother, cousins, aunts, and friends who, unlike the author, have actually graduated from the school make it seem sensationalistic and uninformed. It’s a warm, friendly, intellectual place.

What i know about Miss Porters is that i reeealllly wanna go there. Lol, i read up on the traditions a bit, but from all of the reviews from the graduates that i’ve read, its those traditions that make MPS such a great place. I dont know about this article, but i’m still applying. :-)

It is a close knit community. The traditions were/are very important to my daughter. Good luck with your application.

thats idiotic. I’m a current student, knew tatum, all that shabang. But really, you should ask your mother, if she really is concerned, to talk to the administration. Or students. I have never been bullied, hazed, or scared for my life. Please, look past the media and instead to those who have actually experienced life here. It is a truly amazing place, and my choice of coming here was probably THE best decision I have ever made.

Don’t make a decision based on that article. My wife went to Miss Porters and used to be a Trustee there. It is a wonderful school! Have met the new headmistress, she is great too. I will not blast Vanity Fair, but seriously, should That magazine make your decision? They make money by writing stories that entertain and titillate. Truth is not their objective. There is a story behind the story and it is more about one student’s problems not about a problem school.

I was at MPS today and it was so AMAZING. I visited the dorms and I did not expect them to be that big. Everyone was so friendly and sympathetic. ALmost all the girls I met talked to me about the boys from Avon Farm School. After visiting MPS, I went to Avon because my cousin is applying there. The boys he talked to were also talking about the girls from MPS. It was just so hilarious.

My parents are only allowing me to apply to 4 schools therefore anything that looks vaguely suspicious is banned off the list. Stupid I know but I’m not protesting it took 3 years of solid convincing to get them to consider BS. My mother went to a boarding school outside the US where hazing definitly happened so I think she is balking at what she really doesnt want for me.
