<p>They are not mutually exclusive. In describing how our experiences have changed us, we are indeed revealing who we are. On the other hand, in any (say, intellectual) essay where we reflect on a subject (that does not directly deal with a past experience), our approach to analyzing issues, deriving conclusions or presenting opinions reveal our personalities. So, in both cases you end up showing off yourself.......</p>
