What do you believe is your ultimate purpose in life?

Glad you recognize the allusion

Love that movie.

Have you heard about the sequel?
[Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps - Wikipedia)

“Umm, you can definitely be a writer and raise a family…work on the computer at home”

Yeah, I know, but I want a job with some semblance to a…job. lol, that sounded dumb. I just mean that I don’t want to be a stay-at-home mom who writes. I want to be a writer, if that’s what I choose to do. Which would likely mean I’d be a professor, an editor, or a journalist. I don’t want writing to be a hobby.

I think my ultimate purpose is to be a writer and, perhaps, to travel. Because that’s what I’ve always wanted, and I can’t really think of much else.

something that is in relation to art. but my family has been pounding me with messages claiming that art is not a practical field to pursue in… not sure at this point

Yeah, definitely going to see it

To live and experience life.

I just hope to be a productive member of society, spreading good values and raising a family. Statistically I should make about as much money as my dad, which is actually a lot, but in the end I’ll probably leave most of it to charity and education. I’m the sort of guy who will always drive a pretty generic car such as a black Audi A6, no matter how much money is in the bank. I’ll never be the dumbass flying by in a leased 911.

Sorry, I have to respond.

My mom writes from home, and it isn’t just a hobby. It’s a full-time job. If I happen to have a day off, she won’t even talk to me while she is working. She is a “professional editor” and can do work through e-mails, faxes, etc. And I believe she makes the same amount–or more–as my dad who goes into an office. So don’t assume that one can’t have a full-time, (relatively) well-paying job from home. She USED to work in an office, but changed jobs when she started having kids.

^^ You annoy me.

me ?

No, you’re fine.

I can’t help but roll my eyes at someone who says things like this “Statistically I should make about as much money as my dad, which is actually a lot”

I mean it’s cool that you’ll donate a lot of the fortune you’re destined to make, I would too. But it still comes across as pretty d**chy to talk like that.

Yeah, that kid is annoying (in that post, at least).

Really, I could go on and on about all the things that annoy me about that post. But it would be pointless. I just can’t stand kids that need to make sure everyone knows they’re rich (esp. on an internet board).

lol, i thought hatersunite said that this thread was for serious, non PC posts. and the sociological reality is that our incomes will not deviate too much from that of our parents, excepting a few outliers. half the people on this thread think their goal in life is to become rich/famous anyway which is no worse than anything in my post. if you’re jealous that I have money then I really can’t help you with that.

^^Haha just another elitist. Go to the Walmart thread if you want to get ****ed off more.

Nah dude, it’s totally cool if that’s how you feel. Just sayin…there’s no need to talk like that. I mean, you’ll settle for an Audi? Most people work their entire lives and never come close to having enough to afford a nice one.

And believe me, this isn’t me being jealous. I live pretty well, if I do say so myself. I just have a little perspective too.

the thing is that most people buy the most expensive stuff they can afford. so if you have over 10m and you’re driving a car worth 50k and it’s the only car you own, then you’re not spending all of your money to impress people with a car

OK, but that doesn’t change the fact that how much your old man makes had nothing to do with the thread. Or that fact that you’re acting like an Audi is nothing.

I will give you credit for realizing that you should give to those less fortunate. I just got peeved because you were talking like it’s a given that you will make all that money. There’s no need flaunt your money like that.

^ it kinda does change the thread, because the fact that i already have some money is one of the reasons that my “ultimate purpose” is unrelated to how much money i make. and it’s a given that i will have money, whether or not I earn it all myself
