I'm surprised I haven't seen a thread like this yet.

As most us know, CCers have very high standards when it comes to academics, so I think it would be very interesting to see what we consider good SAT scores.

For me or in general? I feel as if many people who were born in suitable-learning environments could get 1600-1700 if they studied and/or cared and/or read often, but I set high standards for my own score (a typical-to-mildly-subpar CC score) and would be impressed with anyone who beat my score (though not by much, since it’s just another test; think ‘video game high score’ kind of impressed).

Giving myself something to strive for, I’d say 2300+ is good. :)

but seriously… 2200 is 99th percentile, so kudos to that top 1%.

2100 and even 2000 are still great scores. People in this range should be proud of themselves, comparing themselves to the national average, rather than the outrageously high CC average.

A 2350+ would be a “good” score probably both for the applicant and the admissions. Applicant can apply without stressing about scores and the admissions can consider other parts of the application in more detail.

I never knew 2100+ was 97 percentile o.o
I’d definitely be okay with a 2100 then, even though my parents and teachers are expecting way more out of me. I guess 2200 would be a great score; 2300 would be the equivalent to 5 doses of ecstasy. I heard some schools filter students by looking at their SATs. For example, XYZ U screens all students with SATs under 2100 without even looking at their ECs, background, essay(s), etc. After looking at many, MANY chance and admission posts, it seems that if you’re gonna get into Stanford, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, etc., you NEED 2300+ and a HUGE list of great ECs or a very enticing hook with far-above average stats (~2000 SAT, 3.8+ GPA).

2000 = “Wow. Good job.”
2100 = “Simply Brilliant man!”
2200 = -drools-
2300 = “*** BRAH!?!?!?”
2400 = “Hey man, I got a 2400 on the SAT.”
“…” -faints-

But seriously, you guys do realize that most people don’t even come close to a 2000? I don’t understand how a 2000 is a bad score. And, uh… YOU CAN GO TO A REGULAR STATE SCHOOL AND STILL HAVE A SUCCESSFUL LIFE.
