What do you dislike about UCLA?

Title says it all.
I think it'd be nice to have a realistic view of the schools that I'm applying to, so, I'd love to hear about the "bad" things about UCLA.

(thread taken from goldysocks)

the tuition (oos)

Love your moniker, btw.

But to answer your question, the lack of parking, the lack of sufficient (IMO) bike facilities (i.e. places to lock up your bike and for students in the dorms, lack of bike storage); the hills can also be a nuisance if you have to cross campus in 10 min. for class. And while Ackerman’s restaurant facility used to be really, really good, bringing in the fast food and making it look like a food court in a mall was a huge mistake. It used to be a homey place with plush chairs for eating and studying. Now it’s commercial and sterile.

Here is some objective views for you. Warning: it is a highly controversial thread on this forum.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-los-angeles/770864-deterioration-ucla.html</a></p>

^^ nothing on that thread is objective. It’s primarily subjective and chicken little-esque hysteria.

I forgot one major dislike: the quarter system, although after Reagan got through with it, it should really be called what it is: the trimester system.

traffic on campus, on 405, in westwood.

The parking is awful! I got a parking ticket, and wrote an angry appeal about how I should have gone to UC Berkeley instead (which I would never really do). They waived my fine. Be aggressive!

South campus is kinda ugly. Ackerman Union suffers from plumbing issues and likes to flood. The traffic on the 405 is terrible. The Wooden Center gets really crowded.

But of all things…
Under
Construction
Like
Always

But those aside, UCLA is a beautiful, prestigious school nestled in one of the world’s premier, most affluent neighborhoods. It is also the most selective school in the UC system, and received more applications than any other school in the nation.

The worse thing, mickjagger…

is that you’re not here :'(

^aha that was cute
@op:
the construction
cant use your meal swipes on campus(only on the hill)
when it rains you need waterproof shoes(deep puddles everywhere)
crowded
getting into powell from the side is confusing
some buildings in south campus are really easy to get lost in
all the food places get uber crowded around finals and midterms so lines!!!
it takes forever to get a study room

bad, mean, only-here-for-research south campus profs;
ucla administration;
overcrowded,overpacked classes
MATERIALISM
foolish bruin pride
lack of meaningful ECs
grade DEflation
the gym is ALWAYS BUSY
food is horrible
lack of caring UCLA shows to its students
ppl talking loudly in the quiet room of the library

@mnop, is there anything u LIKE about ucla?

He likes expressing his unadulterated joy while trashing it.

good things about UCLA

north campus
humanities classes (only bc they are a joke)
weather
location
dismal performance in sports
ppl are decent
diversity

and the fact that it leads to threads such as this:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-los-angeles/946873-my-gpa-through-3-quarters.html?highlight=TheHutt</a></p>

mnop444 - Master ■■■■■.

-TAs
-Discussion sessions are somewhat pointless.
-Large classes. I can tolerate less than 50 students. But if a class is larger than 50, they should make it an online class or videocast all large class lectures.
-Definitely parking. I know I’d have a lot much more positive feelings for UCLA if I had a parking spot in lot 4.
-The Teaching/Education: Too many professors who are not passionate about teaching, they’re great researchers, but not great teachers. Hand me a textbook and I could self learn the material better than having to sit in a class listening to teachers who really don’t want to do that part of their “job”.

This thread was made to invite ■■■■■■.

Half of that thread is composed of posts by you. How is that objective?

UCLA’s dining is consistently ranked amongst the highest of universities by a variety of college guides. #15 by Princeton Review.
[University of California–Los Angeles](University of California—Los Angeles - The Princeton Review College Rankings & Reviews)
By rank, our food is often better than our education.

mnop444 - Master Idiot.

Never had the dorm food at UCLA, but I’m sure it’s not horrible. Even the dining commons at Cal were not horrible, but I can see tiring of the food fairly easily after a short period of time. Except soft serve ice cream, I really don’t see how anyone could ever tire of that. In fact, all things considered, one really could spend the entire four years using soft serve ice cream as a base food product and trying different toppings from maple syrup to granola. At 21, you could use it as a base product for cocktails, like the Banana Banshee. But I guess that’s a different topic.

Ice cream cocktails are amazing:
Redirecting...; Kahlua, Baileys and melted chocolate ice cream cocktail sundae. Soo good.

Off topic, but yeah. It’s gonna be weird coming to the US and not being allowed to drink, it’s gonna be like being 17 again :</p>
