What do you do in you pre-calc class?

I'm just asking because I'm in pre-calc/ calc (combine pre calc and calc A into one year) but from my perspective we're going extremely slow, and are just starting trig now. I'm trying to figure out if my Algebra II class just went into pre calc, or if my pre calc class is just too far behind.

thanks, so summary: What subjects are covered in pre calc at your school?

Sleep, take notes, color, doodle, pretend to listen, occasionally ask/answer a question, do homework for another class, …

^agreed! i dont really do anything since the beginning of the year, all the concepts have all been already taught or are really easy to pick up, lol

All pre-calc classes are like this and everyone would be better off going directly to calc ab or bc directly after Algebra II.

Agreed ^ they should incorporate Pre-calc’s trig into Algebra II’s and Geometry’s curriculum, along with some of the other important topics, instead of forcing kids to take a class that’s essentially half a review of Algebra II.

My Precalculus class started with data analysis, then to functions (toolkit, transformations, and compositions), then to optimizations (like those in Calculus), polynomial and rational functions (with intro to limits), inverse functions, inverse reexpression, recursions, loans, binary search, geometric growth models, compound interest, and exponential and logarithmic functions. The trig stuff is next semester, which deals with the Unit Circle, trig identities and properties, and whatever else in the book.

Sent from my ADR6350 using CC App

We don’t do anything. In fact I’ve forgotten what we’ve done in the last week. Probably more piece wise functions or something.

Pre-calc is a review of AlgII, then Trig… I would think Trig can be incorporated into Geometry.

At my school the precalc class (pre-Ap not regular) is thought to be harder than AP Calc AB

Right now, we’re doing trig stuff. like factoring sin,cos, etc. we’re past the unit circle phase.

At my school, tracks with calculus basically go:

Alg II -> Geometry -> Pre-Calc -> Calc H
OR
Alg II -> (sometimes geometry) -> Trig/Calc (essentially pre-AP) -> AP Calc

And then there’s multivariable calc, but most people don’t end up taking it. =P I’m currently in Trig/Calc and we’re working on sum and difference formulas. It’s tricky stuff, but still enjoyable, thanks to the teacher.

I feel like my Precalc class might be going a bit slow, too. My school uses block scheduling, meaning I’ll be done with the class in January and so far we’ve done:
-Algebra II review
-Trig (right triangle, unit circle, TONS of identities…SO much trig)
-Functions (right now doing some easy stuff, will get to more advanced stuff like what’s seen in calculus soon)

But that’s all we’ve done/are going to do. I agree with what’s already been posted that this material probably could have been covered between Geometry and Algebra II. However, my Precalc teacher is really awesome and my school’s AP Calc pass rate is respectable so I can’t complain.

I really don’t want to list everything we’ve done so far, but we do have a sine/cosine graph quiz tomorrow. Fun stuff, trig is.
