Thank you alleya!

Great - I can't wait to actually get out and see the place (and the mountains)! Thanks guys!

Eunomie -- You might also be able to get a ride from a friend on campus. The going rate for a ride to or from the airport is a meal (often cheap), and you could probably get a ride to or from UCLA for the same price.

you guys ever go clubbing haha =)

I did exactly once, actually. For "Yuri's Night" (that might not count).

i'm asking because i'm big into trance music, but i havn't had the chance to go to any real clubs that play a lot of it, mostly since I just turned 18. i know LA should have some decent clubs though.

Yeah, if that's your thing, there are definitely people at Caltech that go clubbing in LA sometimes. The ASCIT president from a couple of years ago was pretty well-known for that.

I love trance too drunner! I believe I've seen Armin Van Buuren and some other good djs scheduled for some of the clubs in LA/SanFran (I think); if you're interested I know the easiest way to find out where artists play is by checking out their myspace where you can find their tour dates.

From what I heard, most Caltech students hustle during the weekends. Every day they're hustlin' in fact. They hustle real hard.

lol i'm sure some hustlin goes on.

yeah myspace is one of the best places to get updates. pwnzdeleownz, do you ever go to di.fm or crystalclouds.com?

Yeah I used to visit di.fm quite a bit, I've never visited the other site though. Usually I just download sets and weekly radio shows (I <3 A.S.O.T.) from trancefix.nl , check it out if you haven't already. It has pretty much everything you'd ever want in terms of trance music.

yeah i registered to the site. thanks for recommending it =)

a state of trance is good, but i usually don't listen to it regularly.

you should check out crystalclouds.com. lots of high quality sets. just try searching "chris chambers" on the site and you'll have tons of free, awesome sets.

Haha alright, thanks for the info.

Just a quick FYI about 80% of the frosh in my house made a trip to UCLA without a car so it is 100% do-able. Also the claim that there is no social life is not true. It is all what you make of it. I know people who were able (as frosh) to go to a different college every weekend. There is defiantly drinking (but nothing forced it is only by choice). I have a great time on weekends and even on weeknights I can walk around my house and a large number of doors will be open and plenty of people to talk to. There are times when it is run down and boring but one thing I really like is that when you are working you are with friends. This makes work more enjoyable. Just last night I walked down into our dinning hall and there was a group of 5ish frosh working on phys lab together (including burning holes in random things to pass the time). The work is hard there is no getting away from that but the social life is what you make of it. There are things to do if you find them. I will admit that some houses are much more active than others (which I will let you decide upon from talking to people in the houses). Don't think that there is just work that happens although it is the main part you can get away from it and many do.
