I have some annoying chunks of time in between classes (like 1-3 hours) that just waste my day. I can't go back to my dorm because I just end up wasting time going there and back and I do nothing once I get to the dorm.

I know some people suggest studying in these chunks and it's a good idea, but it takes some getting used to and I'm looking for other suggestions. How about you guys? Thanks!

Well, I study/read between classes and I highly highly highly highly recommend it. Believe me, you can really get a lot done.

But, sometimes I read the school newspaper, do the crossword, go shopping, run errands, eat. Some of my friends go to the library and take naps. You could also call your parents or friends...that's all I can think of for now.

I don't really study, I just reread my notes (ideally for the classes before and after), highlight things, look things up..
I also look through homework (doing math/physics).
I also use the time to eat "socially" - every tuesday at 11 am or something like that.
Some of my mates play chess, but I'm not into that.
Oh, and I read the newspapers. There's always one lying around, and I like to be informed.

If it's a break around lunch time I'll eat and read the New York Times or Wall Street Journal (my school gives it to us for free). If it's a break closer to the afternoon I'll go to the gym.

I usually carry pleasure reading around. Sometimes I do work between classes, especially chemistry labs. (Last semester I always ended up doing my labs during the three-hour block I had between my last lecture class of the day and my actual lab. It worked pretty well.)

Isn't that studying? Haha.

I usually bring a book to read (for fun) or goof off on my laptop. Actually, I usually waste time by walking back to my room and either read or goof off with some friends around or on my computer.

i suggest taking your laptop and taking advantage of a quiet place, some headphones, and the following websites:

alluc.org/hulu.com: tons of TV shows ready to be streamed directly to you.

not your flavor?

TED.com: i can lose so much time on this website. basically it's a bunch of academics talking about their specialties. you got daniel dennett giving lectures about consciousness, pinker giving lectures on linguistics, and a myriad of other topics. it's really awesome.

if it's not too long I'll stop by a friend's and hang out or go back to my dorm and do whatever i need to: nap, do work, do research, etc...but i usually don't get too much work done during the day unless i know i really need to

No. I'm only doing science / math classes, and to study, you need to solve problem sets. But I can't focus on that during breaks. Rereading is.. only refreshing your memory.
