What do you do with old papers?

Old papers such as graded assignments, old tests, quizzes, etc. Papers from last year, last semester, last month, etc.

I'm a rising sophomore and not sure what to do with all of my freshman papers. Do you ever use old Pre Calc notes for AP Calc AB? Essay notes? Or do you just rely on the new ones you'll be getting next year?

I really want to just recycle all my old papers, but I'm scared I might need them one day.

You are probably not scared you might need them one day. That is probably how you rationalize your reluctance to throw them away. The reason you really don’t want to throw them away is because throwing away your own stuff is hard. period. Would the chimpanzee throw away its tools or plant food. Certainly not. such behaviors are evolutionary disadvantageous.

if you are okay with being a slave to your brain, keep them. If you want to do something uniquely human and go against your evolutionary instincts, and are willing to pay the price of feeling slightly bad about it, throw them away.

I have one notebook with all my Spanish notes from Spanish 1-3 and I plan on using it for 4 and AP because most of the time in class is spent drilling concepts so I saved a bunch of time having it. I keep all of my papers and projects on my flashdrive, maybe someday I’ll be able to use something in them. Everything else gets thrown away.

I throw them all out unless I am taking a higher level/AP level of it. For example I saved my Physics notebook for AP Physics. However, from experience I can tell you that you will most likely not need them/refer back to them. As for written papers, like for AP English, I save them on my computer.

I keep all of my notes, tests, quizzes, and essays. I throw away everything else, like random worksheets and homework assignments.

It’s mainly for this one class in particular. These papers remind me of so many good memories, and I’m not ready to let go of them. I really want to because I know I’ll never refer back to it and it’ll just take up space in my room. But these are just such great memories…

Ugh.

Could you scan them into your computer?

^ Not the same… plus I’m way too lazy to do that. I decided I’ll just keep the ones I really love and throw the rest away. Thanks, everyone!

I’ve kept every binder from every Honors/AP class I’ve taken in high school, and a lot of them have come in handy. I definitely used my algebra II notes to help with pre-calc, and pre-calc notes to review trig when necessary for AP Calc. I have every typed assignment second semester sophomore year to senior year on my laptop, and that’s come in handy when I had to type a paper and forgot how to do MLA formatting or something like that.

I save essays and other writing assignments, especially if I got a very good grade. I save tests and quizzes for the semester to study for the exam and then promptly recycle them.

I have scanned every single assignment in high school onto my computer.

Batch-scanning FTW.

^ Wow. Wish I knew about that in the beginning of freshman year.

I either recycle them or give them to underclassmen that want them (especially for classes whose teacher I don’t like very much). On occasion, I save stuff, but that’s mostly released AP MC questions in case I need to make a trade with anyone (but now that I’m entering senior year, that’s probably not very likely).

I throw them into the huge box. And I never look at them again

Toss em (tsen char)

omg… (tsen char).

One day I want to, like, burn my schoolwork. Just to do it.

My chemistry teacher has kept all of his papers since middle school…

After he told us that, I felt ashamed that I throw everything away since someday, I might be able to sentimentally look back on that work. I kept all of my papers from junior year until a few weeks ago. Then I threw them away, because if I can’t have all of my papers, then I don’t want some of them.

I do keep old English essays, though. It’s a bit novel to look back and reflect on how I still got good grades despite poor thesis topic sentences and meaningless verbosity.

What does “tsen char” mean?

It is a misspelling of “ten char.”
