So you told Brown what you did in high school. How about sharing with us? Or maybe talk about things you didn’t put on the application. What do you do in your spare time and for fun? Any unique hobbies?

I basically split my time between writing, living outside for extended periods of time, running, and debating.

What about you?

I write books. :)

Thankfully, that’s on my application, haha.

(Actually, my agent just sent another one of my manuscripts to my editor yesterday…yet another thing to stress over!)

I’m also really active in theatre/chorus

debate, help breed and train pit bulls, community service…

I write, read, play the piano, play basketball, and lift.
I also occasionally take recreational showers…

sigh everyone did so much more than i did. i did a couple of clubs related to social justice and did some volunteering/translating since 10th grade for which i received a small award. i’ve played cello since middle school so that’s on my application too.

hembeck :D

Hey debaters! I debate too! What events do you do? I do public debate, like Parli in college (NPDA and APDA). Are you in CX/ LD/ PFD territory?

LD, 10char

did policy, but i go 2 a diff school now and they don’t have a program, so I do public forum now. an FX, yup middle east and latin america

sh lane- How did you manage to get yourself an editor an agent?
do you submit any shorter stuff to magazines, also?

Football, track and field, academic league, academic deca. debate with as many teachers as possible. And just train for track and football. lol that’s basically my high school life summed up.

Horse-back riding and Key Club administration and community service

I co-founded one of the largest marrow donor system in my country…
We have more than 10000 volunteers now. I write it in my essay because I really love the work I have done for this organization.

In leisure time, I play the piano( I sent Brown a CD and wish they love it), taekondo(black belt),read books, cosplay(just for fun)

hembeck–I don’t write short stuff, just novels. I got an agent my sending out query letters, then partials and fulls to people who requested them. I got my agent in February of last year, and she submitted to editors. My first YA book is coming out on August 25th with Simon Pulse–a YA division of Simon and Schuster. I also have a novella out with a small publisher.

Do you guys plan on debating at Brown if you get in?

No. I actually, in a risky move, wrote my activities blurb about why I started my school’s debate team, excelled, and quit this year. But my school’s college counselor thinks it was a well-taken risk, so… haha

I think I’d want to read that book, Shady.

Aw, thanks! It’s not as serious as the description makes it sound. More of a dark comedy.

I included a picture of the cover with my application…lol!

I’d like to. Parlay sounds like the debate version of extemp.
