What do you guys do in AP Lang?

Do you guys get ready for the AP exam at all? My class took a practice exam back in december and another one out of our 5 steps to a 5 book in February. That is all we have done to get us ready, everything else has just been reading books and doing research papers.
Also what do you guys think of the 5 steps to a 5 book? Is it helpful? Are the practice tests easier/harder then the real deal?

I haven’t looked at the 5 steps to a 5 book, but I took AP Lang last year and we did a decent amount of exam prep. We read a ton of books and did papers, mostly analytical ones (though there was a giant 20 page research paper too…kill me), and every few weeks we would do a released essay in-class, since for the majority of the essays you either had to analyze literary devices or actually use a text (or history, but I usually used a book). We did a practice multiple choice section every month or so, and our midterm was (ugh) a full-length AP exam. I think it really paid off - I felt really comfortable.

Of course, in AP Lit this year, we did absolutely nothing to prepare. We did one MC test on the mid-term, but that was it - even most of the texts we read weren’t on the “receommended” reading list. Oh well…

Our entire year has been:

Reading books

Learning vocab, grammar, rhetorical strategies, etc.

Doing MC practice from past AP tests

Timed writes covering the different essay prompts from past AP tests

So yeah we’ve pretty much been studying for the test since like October.

Literally all we did was essays. Reading the books for homework. Multiple choice practice here and there.

I suppose we should review, but since we haven’t learned anything it isn’t clear exactly what we should be “reviewing”.
