Hi! I already posted this on another forum as separate posts but I figured I should also post it as a whole on the NYU one as well. I'm currently a sophomore and I am very interested in NYU (in fact it is one of my dream schools). However, I need a little help as to what you guys think. As of this moment I don't know my GPA or class rank. I will soon though. I usually only get straight A's (got a B+ in Honors Geometry as a freshmen, I was going through family problems). I am also fluent in Spanish, English, and intermediate in French. I am also currently teaching myself German & might start Italian during the next vacation. I am also quite young, only 15 (Haha, the baby of my grade for the most part, my birthday is June 10th). Anyways, do you guys think I'm on the right track so far? How could I improve?

Freshmen Year:

Sophomore Year:
Honors Band (Still 1st flute)
Honors French 2
Honors English
Honors Algebra 2
Honors U.S. History
Honors Chemistry
AP Biology

Junior Year:
AP U.S. History
AP English Language & Composition
AP U.S. Government & Politics
Honors Band (1st flute & possibly Section Leader)
Honors French 3
Honors Pre-Calculus
*Honors Physics or AP Physics 1 OR *Honors Legal Studies & Honors Contemporary Issues (can't decide)

Also what do you think of me being in Honors Band? I really enjoy it, I have the possibility of earning scholarships (can be used anywhere, not specifically music), and I'll possibly get section leader next year as a junior. Band is a huge commitment in my school & it's full year. You're required to do both marching band & concert band. It's crazy, but I love it! In August I have to go to Band Camp & we practice marching, drills, music etc. for a total of 35 hours in ONE week! (Monday through Friday). During marching season (from August until mid-November) we practice Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday for 3 hours (rain, snow, wind, etc. as long as our instruments don't get ruined we are outside, if we can't be outside we march in the gym) and extended practices too. In just a single week the band practices more than a DOZEN hours during marching season (not INCLUDING the time we practice during school hours). I am required to go to all the practices, football games, competitions, parades, etc. (year-round). I'm also one of the few people that take Honors Band, because out of the regular band you have the option of doing so & for those that do, we get graded even harder then those who just take regular. Either way I get high A's in band (school doesn't give A+'s).

Here are the EC’s I could recall off the top of my head (tell me what you think):

EC’s Freshmen Year:
*Mock Trial (Direct Lawyer & won the “Rookie of the Year” award)
*Creative Writing Club (Got canceled my sophomore year)
*S.A.D.D.
*Books & Bagels (Liaison)
*Honors Band (I play 1st flute among with a few others)
*I tutored in Spanish for a few months

EC’S Sophomore Year:
*Mock Trial (Direct Lawyer)
*S.A.D.D.
*Books & Bagels (Liaison)
*Multicultural Club (1st Year)
*DECA (1st year, but I won 4th place & medal at regionals and I’m going onto states)
*Green Club (1st Year)
*Key Club (1st Year)
*Honors Band (I still play 1st flute & I’ll possibly be a Section Leader next year)

Extra Information:
I’m going to start volunteering at the library either in the spring or in the summer
This isn’t an EC but I also hosted a Dutch student in the fall & I might host a French student in the spring.

Also as of right now my school will offer 17 AP’s starting 2014 (that I’m aware of). I am planning on taking at least 9 AP classes (subjects I’m definitely interested in, so it’s not a college or GPA thing)…I was wondering though, will colleges find that too small of an amount? 9 out of 17? I’m trying to fit as many classes as I can into my schedule, but I am not dropping Honors Band or Honors French. I’m doing all four years. However, there are certain AP’s that I won’t do because it’s not worth it, like AP Spanish Language. I wouldn’t take that because I am completely fluent in Spanish, I can speak, read, write, understand, etc. (It’s my 1st language). You get my point? What do you guys think?

I’m really, really sorry for the two long posts but you don’t have to respond to everything. You can choose a particular topic(s), or if you would like everything. Either way, thank you to all that comment. I truly appreciate you guys taking the time to do so. It means a lot to me.

I think nyu should be a match for you. Sorry for taking a while to respond

Really! You think so? Why?

Good match for you as of now. You still have yet to take your SAT’s or AP’s, and you have yet to have a good GPA Junior year.

When people say a good match school, what does that mean? I know a reach school is like a dream and you’ll have a hard time getting in, a safety school you’re practically guaranteed in or have a high chance, but what’s a match school? How is NYU a match school for me?

Well, a match school is placed between a safety school and a reach (dream) school. Okay?
I don’t know why the other person said you are a match just by looking at your classes and extracurricular/community service. Nonetheless, they are looking good, not perfect but good for where you stand. Until I see your GPA and SAT scores, I can’t say how well you stand for NYU.

I have a 4.2 GPA. (Weighted, my school doesn’t do unweighted)
