I just can’t decide which one drives me more nuts. I think I’m leaning towards UPenn (or even worse when they decide to throw some caps in like UPENN, as if it were some sort of acronym)

so substitute Quaker. Solves your problem.

UPenn, and yea, it sucks a lot more with caps.

Chances thread.

oo this is a tough one. both, i guess.

tho i think it's the worst when ur parents use UPenn just to clarify to ignorant ppl that ur not going to penn state.

i never really understood why people feel the need to put it in all caps...

People don't think about reading one person's chance thread and the comments that come after it, and then comparing with their own stats. No, of course not! They have to make another damn thread just for the heck of it.

What's wrong with UPenn? Their website IS UPenn.edu.

I'll qualify it further: chances thread where the applicant wants to apply to another division and then backdoor Wharton.

as if the adcom can't tell.

Uhm I know that people usually prefer Penn... but as 19382 wrote.. the website is upenn.edu, therefore people will continue saying UPenn until the website name is changed!

i know a grad of univ pensylvania who calls it "U Penn."

Screw it lets just rename ourselves Wharton University.

It elminiates name confusion, it sounds appropriately WASPy, it will drive current wharton students (to be renamed Wharton Business School a la HBS) nuts. Everybody wins.

or we can call it Hogwarts.

I like Hogwarts. (hoggy hoggy hogwarts.)

hope i get put in ravenclaw =)

UPenn is annoying because it's a name clearly contrived just to delineate us from Penn State. That said, the chances threads on this board seem to fall into three major categories:

a) people who have no chance in hell, and then act shocked when someone points that out (annoying)

b) people who are clearly massively qualified, and know they have an almost certain shot of getting in and just want their ego stroked (very annoying)

c) as was mentioned, people who are applying to another school and trying to backdoor wharton, then break out the righteous indignation when their ethics are called into question (most annoying)

i think point c tips the overall balance in favor of chances threads

White people who want to be Korean cough

UPenn. Just because someone made a tech mistake a while back and the opportunity cost of changing all the sites and email adresses is too great does not make it correct.

And changing the name to anything is a horrible idea, the University of Pennsylvania has too much history and connotations in it by those that love the University. We might as well demolish the Palesta and Franklin Field because we want shiny stadiums with press boxes, while scrapping Hey Day, Fling, Rowbottom, Skimmer, toast throwing, etc. And melt the Button and statue of Ben down and make another piece of "art" like what currently sits across from Ben and Jerry's.

One does not have to read chances threads (or even this forum), but you can't avoid seeing and hearing UPenn.

I didnt know how the Penn UPenn conflict all started.. I dont have a problem with either of them and I dont see why people dont like UPenn if even thats the name of the website (as I stated before)... What Ive heard.. dont know where... is that if someone is going to write the abr. of the university... the adcom prefers Penn and not UPenn... thats why I prefer and try to use Penn... t-shirts say Penn but uhm most of the people I know refer to it as UPenn... I dont see why theres a big problem with it...

UPenn is a pet peeve of ine too.
