What did you guys submit? Did you just fill up the form? I'm a minor BTW so I can't register to vote.

You fill out a SLR (Statement of Legal Residence) after you have been accepted to Berkeley or any of the UC campuses. The Berkeley one is online and the admissions website will give you the link to submit it in the future.

You fill out the SLR form and some of the schools ask for things like a copy of your driver's license or car registration.

How do they know to consider you as a California resident during the admission process if proof is submitted only after you're accepted?

Nothing is verified on UC app's until after acceptance and most of it after you SIR to the Univ you are attending. They accept you based on what you put on your application. If your application does not match what is verified your acceptance will be recinded.

thanks a lot. :)

so there are 2 types of residency: for admission purposes and for tuition purposes. How do they verify your residency for admission purposes ? at the end of the application, they ask 4 questions, are those the things that they use to decide whether or not you are a resident?

No. For admissions purposes, you write your residency information in the application, which I believe was at step 1 or 2 or somewhere in the beginning. Those 4 questions at the end of the application are for residence tuition purposes but they are optional and can be left blank.
