What do you intend to do for your summers in college?

I intend to travel around a bit -- I definitely won't be doing summer school/research, haha, med school's the appropriate time to kill myself, methinks.

Anywho, I'll travel in ever widening circles. So far, I want to:

Summer 1:Road Trip across the (probably Western) US, long distance hiking (I'll try to do a Pacific Crest through hike, and prolly fail, haha); depends really on who I can get to go with me and whether they're up for walking a couple thousand kilometers with me or not -- if I can't get anyone, I'll just try the hike alone.

Summer 2:Explore/hitchhike/drive(?)/hike Mexico and various parts of Central/South America -- hopefully with some willing comrades, haha, and before my HS Spanish fades into oblivion. Not sure where I'd go persay, but I'd want to see the Aztec/Mayan pyramids and Machu Picchu and the like.

Summer 3:Europe-hitchhiking bonanza -- do the stereotypical EuroTrip and stay in hostels and do all that jazz, just like everybody else. Hopefully find some people to join me, haha, as always. Try to cover a bunch of countries (I'm particularly interested in Germany, Norway, and Switzerland, although I'd want to visit the other countries as well). Also, I would attempt to stick more to the backcountry roads and stay away from the tourist traps (as would every other tourist, of course!).

Summer 4:By now, I'll have taken some classes in Japanese, and so would likely try and visit Japan for a month or so, and maybe stop by China or something on my way over. Dunno where I would stay and how I would get around, though, probably by public transport or something. One fantasy that I've always had would be to follow in the footsteps of Basho, but I don't know how tenable that travel plan will turn out to be...

If I end up attending my state school money shouldn't be an issue (I'd save up the stipend that I'd get in addition to the full ride, and maybe work a bit, and save up my monthly allowance and stuff -- I'm hoping to have maybe 10K a year for my summer expenses...).

So what are everyone else's plans?

Definitely travel a lot.

In between traveling, I'll hold down jobs and internships and such, maybe look for places to live, etc.

i'm too busy worrying about getting into college to think about what I plan to do during the summers when I am in college lol.

Willing comrades! that's me! ;]

Home! I will be spending summers home with my family and my boyfriend, definitely. I might work a little bit if I absolutely need to, but I'd rather spend maximum time with my family and my boyfriend and my friends.

If I can get my boyfriend and some other people to come I'd like to travel a little bit, probably, but mostly I just want to be home. I know I'm going to be really homesick while I'm away. (I'll miss my cat so much!) If all goes according to plan my boyfriend and I will be about five or six hours apart while we're in college so we'll be able to visit each other on occasion, but I know it won't be nearly enough, so when I have the chance to spend time with him I'm going to take it.

NOTHING.

probably a no-stress summer job

work, travel and see friends, and of course...hardcore video gaming!

yes travel for sure!
But college=financial obligations, so I dont know if traveling will remain an option...summer job is more likely, unfortunately :[

fun traveling, internships, or a job.

Job, internship, job.

I hope to get a college internship at the same place I want to do my high school scholarship at. The college internship at the place is paid and it is more research intensive rather than volunteering which is what the high school one is like. Also, maybe even hopefully a part-time job there.

Also, it would be nice sometime during one of my undergraduate summers to visit the Hawaii Institute of Marine Science or whatever it is called that is the breeding ground for hammerheads and focuses on shark research. That would be truly awesome, but I'm sure it costs alot...

I'll probably do one of the research programs the school I go to offers.

International travel sounds awesome, but I don't think I'll be able to afford it. My main goal of college summers is to avoid living with my parents for extended periods of time ever again, so if I have to do some kind of research/internship at my college to stay on campus, I'll do it.

I am determined to go to London for the next Summer Olympics, though. I don't know how I'll do it, but I will.

traveling...
My friend and I are planning an amazing 2-3 week Europe backpacking trip during the summer after we graduate (high school). I'm sooo freakin' excited.
Summers during college I'd hope to get an internship/research job that's somewhere I haven't been before and learn something ridiculous.

Go skydiving, climb a mountain, explore a rain forest, and go spelunking (or deep sea diving).

I absolutely must check those off before I graduate college.
