What Do You Know About Purdue?

if anyone knows ANYTHING about Purdue...anything at all! please post!

dont go there

-current junior at purdue

are you serious dtshen?!?!?

unless you are going for engineering, go to IU instead.

yes i am serious

dtshen -- what are you majoring in? what are you unhappy about? it would be really helpful if you could elaborate for us.

and is business good in purdue?

can you please tell us what it is that you don't like about Purdue? I have a friend that goes there and he loves it!

jayeez: IU has a considerable edge over Purdue in business

Purdue's Class of 2008 profile:

80% acceptance rate
28% out-of-state freshmen

70% with SAT-v below 500-599
58% with SAT-m below 500-599

Is it really that easy to get admitted to Purdue? I know that engineering, business and aviation are competitive. But how about arts & sciences? for out-of-state applicants?

Indiana University Class of 2008 profile:

83% acceptance rate
35% out-of-state freshman

72% with SAT-v below 500-599
65% with SAT-m below 500-599

I'd agree IU is better... beautiful campus, great business school and music school.

IU isnt better academically but is much better socially and its business program doesnt have an edge in management or finance.

Really? Kelly is ranked #7 in both management and finance (undergrad). I thought Krannert's strength is in the quantitative areas, like operations management?

kranert is also ranked in the top 10 in management and finance... im not sure the exact number but number 7 vs. any other number in top 10 is not an edge IMO

well, I've applied to purdue anyway..so cant bother applying to IU now!

Just got back to the office and checked my copy of US News...

Krannert is ranked 18th in Finance and 23rd in Management ... 3rd in Operations Management, 4th in Quantitative Analysis and 7th in Supply Chain/Logistics. It also has a top rated Hospitality Management.

Looks like the old memory still serves me well...

Jayeez,
Unless you are into engineering, you may wanna consider IU as well. The IU application is quite simple to do ... takes no more than a couple hours.

Like terrybhs says, the social environment is much better. Btw, Newsweek/Kaplan selected IU as one of the 25 Hot Schools this year http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8987172/site/newsweek/

i was also thinking about applying to IU but the $55 app fee is kind of a deterent... and the hot schools list is a JOKE, im not saying the iu isnt better than purdue (i actually agree), but.... if your looking at midwest schools i suggest ohio univ.-athens, just as good if not better than iu socially and has some great programs (although rankings dont do them justice) and if your a top student then there honors program is top notch

Another IU advantage: Bloomington v. West Lafayette

yes west lafayette sucks they have one mall that is ok at most and thats basically it.... there are a few clubs near purdue and indy is only an hour away though

An hour to Indy may not sound like a big deal, but it will be once you're a student there. Schools located in a cool college town have a big advantage. You're not going to want to take a road trip every time you're looking for some action. After going to school in Ann Arbor, West Lafayette looked downright depressing.
