What do you know about theses SUNYs: Brockport, Plattsburg, Cortland, Fredonia

I’m just checking in here for the first time. My DD will be a hs jr. Both Fredonia and Brockport have shown up on her radar. She is interested in their dance depts and possibly soccer teams. Their costs even for out of state are less than we would pay for in state here in Ohio.

Can anyone explain why so much off campus living at these places? I assume the schools handle arrangements even for off campus housing.

I don’t know what you mean by the schools handling arrangements for off campus housing. I would assume the do not (other than checking that student eligible for off campus). I would assume so much off campus because a combination of unattracive dorms and resaonable cost off campus housing.

I grew up in upstate NY, family in Fredonia, and attended Fredonia for a year as a graduate student. A significant number of students are from the area and live at home, commuting to school, causing the larger off-campus housing numbers. In my day there were plenty of students from Long Island and elsewhere, as well, so it was far from only a commuter campus.

Fredonia is a small upstate NY town - an area of the country I love and now find incredibly attractive and charming but at 18 it wasn’t exactly thrilling… On the other hand I know friends who attended from the New York City area as undergrads and settled there for life.
