What do you like about HSU?

Self-explanatory...What part(s) of Humboldt State do you like the best? I welcome all current students and those who have encountered Humboldt at some point during their college search as well as alumni.

As an alum (and a future grad-student), I love Humboldt, but not for what would be considered the popular reasons:

excellent dorms compared to the rest of the CSU (except the Hill: Redwood and Sunset Halls)

a campus that is student-focused, not professor-focused

the location--I love the redwoods and the cool temperatures year-round

the smaller classes--hard to find comparable-sized classes on a CSU budget
(and yes, you're gen ed classes will probably be larger than your upper division major classes)

the tolerance factor--you can talk to anyone about anything, as long as you are willing to listen and to accept their side of the story

the beautiful campus

the challenges the professors set you, and the help they'll give you if you try your hardest and ask (it may be easy to get into Humboldt, but it is definitely going to take some work to finish your degree once you get there)

the fact that as you walk on campus you don't see a whole bunch of "clones." Yes, there are people who would be categorized as hippies, and those who are not, but you don't have the high-school cliquish fashions setting the standard for who and what you are.

the fact that you can take classes in just about any department (except nursing), provided that you meet the pre-reqs

the active arts community--from artists in the surrounding area, to performances on campus, to the hands-on classes that teach you to express yourself

the overall vibe of the campus--it's active yet tranquil at times, too.

the ability to go in as undeclared and also the ability to go in as a declared major and be able to change your major if you change your mind after a few classes

the rain! (I'm from the drought-ridden SoCal)

the great rep our sciences, psych, arts, and social work programs have

the ability for undergrads to do real research and projects that make a difference

avcast, how much does it rain?
