I want to see what people think about UPenn. What do you hate? What do yo find extremely unique? How is the science section, etc etc.

i like everything about it EXCEPT people like yourself who want to apply there without...real legit reason?

seriously, why can't you think up of your own reasons? if you don't know anything about it/have your own opinions about the school, why bother applying there?

just my opinion.

Check your PM

Be more empathetic - the OP hasn't gone to Penn before. How's he supposed to know what it's like?

Clearly he has an idea of what he wants and doesn't want. That's why he's asking students - who actually know about Penn - about their opinions, so he can better evaluate the university. For instance, perhaps he's looking for a school with great housing. If several replies were to indicate the housing is poor at Penn, he'll probably reconsider applying.

These types of posts, in my opinion, should be encouraged. There's only a risk they'll offer more information. Well, unless they're plagued with replies from individuals who offer nothing but complaints. (Oh wait, it was only CyrstalPineapple's opinion. That changes everything, right?)

Listen man. I love upenn, i love it's research institutions, and it's one university policy. I've followed the university for a while (i.e. neuroscience research, etc). Yet, before I apply, I want to make sure that I'm extremely positive. That's why I want to find out more; find out what's unique and what people will really love.

I, like the OP, Have not gone to Penn because I can't afford flying there for a tour.
HOWEVER, I've used the SEARCH function and found everything from dining meals, quirks, hey day, etc. Google Penn and READ.
Heck, I've read most of the Daily Pennsylvanian since the beginning of this year.
My infatuation with Penn stems from what I found by discovering so much about it through my own research.
What the OP wants is for you to write what you like about Penn so they can incorporate that into their Why Penn? Essay because they probably don't know what they like about Penn, so they'll go with popular opinion.

ok maybe that was a little bit harsh on my part.

i suggest looking at penn's website first and doing some research on your own first. what one person may like another person may not, so it'd be best to check up on things on your own FIRST.

good luck with everything!

penn has great truck food.

I like it's campus. Anything from the hustle and bustle of spruce/walnut/chestnut streets, to the calm tranquility of the locust walk. From the vast variety of food trucks, to the easily accessible restaurant. From the 5 minute train ride into center city, to the 15 minute walk to center city. From the extensive researching facilities, to the quiet medical and general libraries. Penn is great.

Prestige Whore

Rule 34: Is that what you hate or love about Penn?

Lots of unjustified hate for the OP, kind of reflects on your own insecurities about your chances.

I hearted Penn and I miss it so very much. I encourage the OP to find out more about it. there's so much to love....sigh...

i love everything everything everything

odds are this may change once classes start though ;)

bump…

Not in any particular order: the campus, the reputation, the opportunities for undergrads, the research, the “One University” policy, the social life, the college house system for every type of person, the freedom, the resources of the city, the constant free food, dining dollars, the amazing professors and their dedication to their students, the financial aid, the grants, take your professor to lunch at the university club, locust walk, the “requirements” that have expanded my mind in ways that I never thought possible, the diversity, the Love statue, the social groups, the school spirit, the fun, the walking escorts (they’re the nicest people in the world), the pre-professional opportunities, the internships, the liberal atmosphere, fisher fine arts library, college green, NSO, spring fling, the sense of community, the feeling of being in a “bubble”/rural campus within the city, the Penn pride, and the happiness that I feel when I realize that I’ve still got 3 wonderful years left here and I wouldn’t trade them for anything in the world : )

^^^
Meh, liberal atmosphere may be something to either love or hate about Penn.

Wow SusieBra, Penn sounds too good to be true! Was that post 100% true? Are all of those things actually good (in your opinion of course)? Also, what school are you in?

And what about the things you hate? What do you think of the dining food/dorms? Anything else?

I love Penn. Honestly, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t. I don’t hate anything about Penn.

I love the college house system- I think there’s a college house to fit everyone’s unique personality and interests.
Now that we have Bon Appetit dining, I really like the food. Two of my professors even have dining plans because the food is really fresh and good. It’s also convenient. We have dining dollars too so that you can eat at places other than the cafeteria if you want.

Dining halls have gotten better since last year (switched food providers last summer, so that’s probably part of the reason)

I’d agree with a lot of the things SusieBra commented on. I really like the fact that you’re able to take classes in all departments and schools, and aren’t limited to your own faculty. The sheer number of options and opportunities available can be overwhelming sometimes (and frustrating when you’re trying to decide what to do, since for me anyway there’s more things that sound cool/interesting than there is time to do everything) Most of the professors I’ve had have been great; obviously there’s the odd prof/TA here and there that is less than stellar, but that’s true at any large university.
