What do you like/dislike about UCLA?

i am going to apply to UCLA and it is my match school. i want to know what the students who go there or know about it think.

bad: too many people
good: lots of hot people

really bad: the econ department
really good: the basketball team

lol, yahooo, econ major?

good thing: a lot of good looking people
bad thing: not enough of them in any of my classes :(

hwt: yeah, you?

aa6590, you south campus? :P

pros: weather, proximity (to the 626!), people who care about stuff

cons: idiots who only care about how good-looking the people around them are

^I'm curious as to how common that con is.

Too many pros to individually mention. Only legitimate cons I can think of are parking at UCLA sucks, and there's too many triple dorms.

yahooo: yeppers

lol ya pink im sure u never look around the world to see if there are any good looking ppl. dont criticize me cuz you're probably beat as **** and one of the ppl im talking about :S

and yes im south campus...

Pros: Huge school, well-known school, lots to do, people of all shapes and sizes, lots of resources (libraries, gyms, recreational, labs/research, job fairs, etc), location, sports

Cons: A lot of very shallow and materialistic people (typical of So Cal), not too diverse (although you'll find people of every type here, you'll mostly only see Asians), professors are fairly hit and miss (some are awesome, many suck), going up the hill, not a very intellectual atmosphere (YMMV), a lot of people don't really care about school, boring weekends (not much to easily do other than partying), class sizes

Altogether, I'd say I love being at UCLA and that its a great school. Take everything I've said with a grain of salt. This place is huge, and everyone's experience is totally different. Most people I know are as happy as one can be, but we all like to complain from time to time.

pros: large school

cons: large school

instead of looking at UCLA as a whole, why don't you (OP) focus on things pertaining to your intended major, proximity from home, desire to study abroad, minors, cost of living, etc... things that affect you more personally?

Are you kidding me? Yeah, everyone looks around, but I'm saying I don't care about it enough to tell some prospective applicants to see it as a pro that there's hot people around you, when it comes to picking out a university. It's a very shallow thing on which to base your decision for what's to become your new home. Though, if you're the type who cares that much about looks, then go ahead and continue being your shallow self. You have a couple more years to grow up.

As for your comment on my probably being "beat" (very classy of you to comment, btw), I'm not even going to dignify that by being defensive.

Totally agree with Mr.Pink
Why do u guys care so much if UCLA has a lot of good looking ppl?
Not like ur one of them...Not like ur dating one of them

it is a plus...

i mean i'd rather have attractive people than ugly people to look at on my way to class/in class

i definitely think its something to consider. it is a pro, and NOT a con. mrpink just got all offensive at the harmless comment (and personal opinion) about there not being particularly good looking ppl at UCLA all the time.

Pros: A lot of opportunities available - large school, major research university, in a metropolitan area, has a hospital that attracts funding, strong programs all around, etc. Location - close enough to have the advantages of being in a large city but in its own bubble in West LA to stray away from disadvantages (e.g. urban decay and pollution). Great sports venues, arts and performing arts venues within the proximity... e.g. LA Opera. Well-rounded school - isn't purely nerds or jocks. Fair balance of students who do just a bit of everything. A lot of teams, clubs, organizations, etc. for one to get involved in one desires. Weather. A lot of majors to choose from. Cost of attending a public school.

Cons: Large state school. Overcrowded lecture halls. Predominantly, lecture-hall based teaching. There are a lot of resources available -- people to help you out, research opportunities etc... it's just you have to compete with so many others for these positions or for attention. Southern Californian materialism. Lack of 'intellectualism', stimulation, and discourse in classes [of course it depends on the department and whether or not it's a lower or upper division requirement]. Sense of feeling lost - an existential crisis at some point during your years at which point your na

Yeah, you should have, but why didn't you?!

Did I say "beautiful people" wasn't a pro? No. And I didn't get defensive at the comment, it's honestly a con I wanted to point out. And why would I get defensive at your saying there aren't any good-looking people in your classes? Seriously? Why do I care?

I'm saying the UCLA population can get a little shallow and materialistic in general, some of the time. And that's not really pleasant to be around.
