What do YOU like & dislike about UMD?

Lindz,

Yeah...gotta love the florida sunshine, :P. Introduction to Psychology in the huge psychology lecture hall in the Psychology Building. I believe Smith, Capo and Murnane all have classes there. I had Capo and am I glad it's over! I mean the average grade (47% of psychology 100 students) get C's, that's disgusting.

By the way, I got a 85 (B)and one of my only B's first semester, :/.

Maybe the psych professors subscribe to the "bell curve" strategy RE: grade distribution?

Also, regarding the large lecture classes, for Spring 2008, the max # of students in one psych 100 lecture class is 425...that class meets MW from 4:15 to 5:00; then there is a discussion section (with 25 students) for another hour during the week. D was able to avoid these size classes w/ AP credit that she brought from hs. She has/had classes of 75+ that also had discussion sections that she found helpful. As I've mentioned before, you can be as anonymous (or NOT) as you want to at UMD.

Jtrain...re: the physical size of campus, D won a bicycle on campus during the first week there---she has REALLY gotten a lot of use out of it....at least Testudo "warns" you when you register if you haven't allowed enough time between classes to get from one building to another. There's no dispute that you'll get lots of exercise going from one place to another!

its kind of annoying how i won't have housing for junior and senior year...
its also annoying how when ur in high school...and ur deciding whether or not to attend umd or not...they treat you so nicely...make umd seem like this amazing school at the open house/orientation...but once you get here they don't really care anymore about u and just make you pay for all of these random expenses.

astrophysicsmom, that's a good point. I'm terrible at econ but had to take 4 classes for my business major. After getting a C in my first econ class, I made a point to sign up for the smaller classes so I would be forced to pay attention and participate.
