what makes u loves cornell?

best program for what i want to study (hotel admin). absolutely beautiful. and mostly...the people are all so so so nice :)

no where else i would rather be going to college.

Free rjd2 show on the arts quad Aug, 30.

And solid academics and stuff I guess.

-Absolutely clean and beautiful trees, lakes, gorges, and nature in general.
-Safety in and out of campus
-Ezra's nondiscriminating ideals since Cornell's inception.
-Cornell's big size and robust diversity.
-Fortitude to initiate now world-leading colleges like ILR, HumEc, Hotel, and Architecture. (I luv humec!)
-Ice cream flavor for each class :)
-How Cornell grows like 40% of its ingredients for everyday food out of its farms.

List goes on

The weed

that I cannot find.

On a hill in the middle of New York, endowed with a magnificent campus and embraced by lakes and gorges and waterfalls, is one of the world's truly great research universities.

I can't isolate one independent and beloved piece of Cornell that can somehow transplanted to where I'm now studying; I'm left wishing I were back there!

the people...although 5% hispanic and 5% african american is disproportionate to the true american makeup...

What does that have to do with it? And what do you think it is?

13.4% of Americans are classified as "black or African American alone," and 14.8% of Americans are of some Hispanic descent, the majority of whom are White Hispanic (about 5% are other or mixed race Hispanics). This is according to the 2006 American Community Survey of the US Census Bureau.

Based on your other posts, I'm afraid you might have the wrong impression, and about what you are implying when you express your distaste of Cornell's demographics.

I love the fact that people here aren't stuck-up elitists unlike some other top schools. Students here are pretty down to earth and outgoing in general.

I love my diploma.....it's beautiful and has a gorgeous frame to go with it :-)

All the orientation freebies. A free summer reading book, free new students handbook, free orientation guide. Plenty of useful information.

i just wish cornell could have more than just 5% black and 5% hispanic...

that's all...

Fair enough... hopefully Cornell's expansion of financial aid (and other programs) will make it more accessible across demographic groups.
Enjoy the freebies while they last ;)

The financial aid program will fail miserably soon.

Cornell really has a hard time attracting under represented minorities because of its location. However, I don't think Cornell should just accept more minorities for the sake of diversity.

I agree that it would be stupid to accept minorities simply for more ethnic diversity...blacks/hispanics who go to Cornell are there because they're smart, not because of their ethnicity. While the black/hispanic population isn't huge, there seems to be a pretty big Asian population which is nice.

What I love about cornell is that the students seem laid-back and friendly, and at the same time are also competitive and intelligent.

the people and my major. 2 reasons why i'm here. otherwise, i would have gone to cali ;)

I agree that the biggest reason there aren't more minorities is the rural location. Most minorities in the U.S. live/grew up in urban areas and would be hesitant to live more than an hour from any major city. I say this because i had the same considerations but got over them.

And what I love most about Cornell is that everyone here is as smart as me, and that pushes me to work harder than I would somewhere I wouldn't have to worry about failing classes.

Agbm, why do you say that, "The financial aid program will fail miserably soon"?

I'm pre-frosh, but I like Cornell because it is like the Stanford of the East (Or you could say that Stanford is the Cornell of the west, haha) in terms of being well rounded and what not.

And the lakes and farms that are on the way to Cornell, if you come from the North are beautiful.
