What do you love about NYU?

There isn't much evidence that NYU is indeed the #1 dream school in the US here on the College Confidential NYU forum. Let's change that. 17 pages of "I'm afraid NYU will be..." threads are not cool.

I'll start, even though I don't go to NYU yet and probably don't have much to contribute.

I love Manhattan. I'm guessing all of you do too, otherwise you would not have applied. Granted, I haven't been there too much, but I'm a big concertgoer and love living in a city, as I grew up in one. I love how international and intercultural NYU is. Having a couch to crash on every continent? Betcha it's cool. I also like the opportunities and job prospect of Stern (the school I have been admitted to).

What do you LOVE about NYU? Current students are welcome to brag!

I will respond based on talks with sonny and his reported experiences:

1) Being able to live in real estate my parents cannot afford

2) Having awesome views of Manhattan from a high floor (even less affordable for most people)

3) Networking, networking, networking - auditioning for a possible spot to perform at BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) with freshman year not quite completed (and non-Tisch student)

4) Access to global ethnic cuisines, Indian, Brazilian, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, American, French, Middle-Eastern, etc. Cheap (street carts) to expensive (fancy restaurants)

5) Delicious and cheap slices of pizza from $1-$2 (Two Brothers and Famiglia Pizzeria) Yum!

6) Student body of such variety and interests, NYU is a world in and of itself

7) Great opportunities to befriend people of similar interests (music) while rooming with brilliant scientists/ mathematicians in the process of growing their skills; great range of people to socialize with

8) Musical/ theatrical venues - small and large to enjoy

9) Shopping from glamorous (name labels) to the unique thrift shops

10) Decent variety of food and dining choices in school dining halls

11) Bumping into stars and national figures is not unusual in public venues and right at NYU, John Stewart, “Ralph Fiennes,” stars of the “The Pacific (HBO series), etc.”

12) Great school trips/ study programs to domestic and foreign destinations

13) Live and let live mentality of a large number of people at NYU

14) Walking around different neighborhoods in NYC (too many to exhaust in one year at NYU)

15) Take in Chinese New Year Dragon Dance (eat delicious authentic Chinese in Flushing) one day and eat in French Restaurant (skirt steak, fois gras) the next (both courtesy of parents)

16) School - learning not only through classes but also in living life through experiencing NYC and beyond

17) Participating in and learning though the top-ranked NYU Mock Trial Team

18) Efficient and “affordable” subway system

etc.

Note: This is not a complete list.
