I'd kinda put NYU off my prospective list due to lack of a good equestrian team, but after talking to my trainer decided I shouldn't base my college decision on sports. I'm looking into going into arts/writing/music type things, and my grades and SATs should be plenty high for NYU. So, I was just curious what people really like about the school, or what they can't stand. I'd appreciate any views.

It's always nice to see prospies floating around the forum. :) Well, I'll start off by saying that NYU Tisch is a highly regarded school, and it seems to offer what you're looking for in terms of what you want to study. Although I would agree that the D-3 sports teams at NYU aren't exactly attractive, the school has plenty more to offer. Personally, I enjoy how NYU is meshed with the city, so there's always plenty of things to do (like watching cultural events). I've heard that it was quite the party during the World Cup finals as well. :D

just a comment on NYU's Division III: Believe it or not, but this was actually a plus in my book. Because sports isn't the biggest thing at NYU, I can join any sport I'd like (taking into consideration that they offer it) and actually get an opportunity to play. if you excel in a sport, then great, you'll be recognized or at the top of the pack. Because i'm not the most athletic person, I want to get a chance to improve and get the professional on-court experience as oppose to just be playing intramural or warming the benches like i would at a division I school.

and re: what i love/hate about NYU: I'll start with the love, but keep in mind that i'm an incoming freshman. I love that NYU is integrated to the city because I love the city. I like that it doesn't hold your hand and have comforting gates to protect you, you're pretty much on your own. I also love the whole job/internship opportunity. I know a lot of people who are interning at places that I would never even dream of if i had gone to another school at a different location and it's really just unlimited in terms of opportunities- professionally in the real world (most importantly NYC), or on campus with the endless numer of clubs and organizations. I guess the basic point is, I don't feel like NYU can't offer me what I want to do. If i want to combine things, mix things up, whatever-- then theres gallatin, etc etc. However I'm not too fond of the whole seperate school idea-- stern, tisch, CAS, steinhardt-- it does make it a little difficult to register freely for any course you want.

and hate, i think everyone can agree that NYU is not the most giving when it comes to financial aid. i hate that the school's endowment is not high enough to provide more scholarships and such, because i'm really in a lot of debt. But you can't have everything
