What do you love most about Tufts?

I don't think pants with the word JUMBOS across the butt would sell well off campus...

^ hahaha.

i hear a lot about the naked quad run...
what is that? and are people actually naked??

and are people actually naked??

Yes they are. I didn't believe it either, but there are hundreds of naked people

haha yeah aries. I know some people are going to petition for Wireless South next year...and supposedly the campus is going to be all wireless in a few years. Word on the "street", at any rate.

Oops, edited b/c i didn't see the second page - yeah, Naked Quad Run is insane. One day a year when it's totally acceptable to be naked and see everyone else naked. SO MUCH FUN!

Any other pros/cons. I was reading that a decent amount of people seem to transfer, any idea why they would want to leave? Could you guys give me an idea of the quality of classes and professors, specifically Freshman year? Any other insight would be great, thanks!

Duffman,
Not sure where you heard about Tufts transfers, but if you look at the US News Report from 2005, (don't have 2006), it indicates that Tufts is #16 in Best National Universities for graduation & retention rate. It is just below Cornell, UVA and U.Penn. Leads one to believe that the transfer rate is very low. Hope this helps.

Tufts has a very low transfer rate. I only know 2 or three people who have transferred.

I love Jumbo. He is my hero.

The fact that Tufts is such a controversial school on CC. Tufts syndrome, Ivy-league reject school, Tufts location in Medford not really Boston. When you really look at the school and separate all the labels and see its students body, then you know why Tufts is such a first class school.

I like how he's a Tufts student now, graduating next year! :)

(the OP)

The dorms, honestly aren't that great. Haskell/Wren are pretty bad, as with Lewis (the bathrooms are literally falling apart). South is really nice though, that is where I am living next year

I basically love it at Tufts. The people are all really nice. I've met so many interesting/quirky people here. The classes are pretty good, but mine have tended to be on the impersonal side (large classes usually). The classes that I'm taking aren't that hard, at least compared to some of my upper-level high school classes. One thing that I do notice is that students tend to isolate themselves by race, much more than at my high school (but which college doesn't?). The food is great, no complaints. The campus is great and is in a great location.

I actually love Haskell, and I'm going to love Wren even more! Most people don't like these two dorms primarily because of the physical aspects--they are ridden with brick walls and odd riot-proof structured suites, but honestly, the social aspect completely cancels out all the bad things. Living in a suite with 9 other people is almost like living with a family, and each suite in Haskell has its own particular personality. Walking through each suite is like walking through different worlds...It never ceases to intrigue me.
Anyways, the thing I love most about Tufts are the people here...including the professors. The professors here actually care, and they really want to help you. And the people here are definitely interesting and fun. I have to disagree about the racial isolations...The fact that there is such great diversity here matters more. We all tend to hang out with the people who we can truly connect with--the swimmers hang out with other swimmers for probably the same reason that Asians hang out with other Asians and the internationals hang out with other internationals--and just because you see a bunch of people hanging out with their own race doesn't mean they're the only people they hang out with either.
The food is really great here, though, compared to other colleges. After a while it can seem a bit sickening, but the variety of Dewick and the quality of specialty nights at Carmichael are definitely good!

The elephant on the sweatshirt and other school merchandise.

I think there is nothing that you CAN'T love about Tufts. It's such a well-rounded school. The first time i went on their website,I just fell in love with it. (before visiting!!)

I really love how good looking the guys on the ad committee are... :)

Hahahahaha!!

I don't think there is just one single thing that I love. I have visited a couple of times, and each time I just felt right in. I've also been to other schools, but the feeling that I got at Tufts was unlike any other.

^ I hear you sak09. Whenever I set my foot inside of Tufts university, I feel like I went back to my middle school. Everything looks so similar except Tufts is a world known school whereas my middle school is just a school in a poor third world country.

Tufts is just Tufts. You can't compare it with other schools, you can't express how it feels when you get inside Tufts. You can only feel it in your heart.

I love how the tufts daily entertains me in my large lectures by providing sudoku, word jumble, and a crossword puzzle.
I love the size of our school- how you can easily walk around seeing people you know and some you've never even seen.
I love how this is my first year hear and we've already had people come to speak here such as Tony Blair, Seth Meyers, Cecile Richards, Erin Brockovich, and Michael Pollan (just to name a few) and the volume of students who attend these lectures.
I love how tufts is so close to boston but still has a campus feel.
I love the library roof.
I love how many accapella groups we have.
I love the greek life here at tufts.
I love how concert board just had ben folds give a concert last night and this year's spring fling acts consist of ludacris and asher roth.
I love the dining halls and special themed nights at carmichael (hands down the christmas dinner was the BEST).... and trick turning of course! haha
I love how beautiful the campus is.
I love how proactive the whole tufts community is.
I especially love the classes and professors... for example: my physics teacher missed a class one day because he was receiving an award in switzerland for working on the large hadron collider and the day he got back, he held a 2 hour review session.

I love how I can go away on break and have an amazing/unbelievable time and then come back to tufts and feel like i'm home while realizing all over again just how much I love it here.

It's really nice to see that this is still alive. I am actually working on an Organic Farm in Northern India right now, which could never happen without Tufts. I return to SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies) in a few weeks (one of Tufts London study abroad options) and will then return in August for my senior year at Tufts, and I am honestly sad that I only have one more year left. The post above me is great, and it makes me feel great that the campus still has the same amazing spirit and can show first-year students such a great experience. Yay Tufts. :)
