Hello everyone, I am getting very confused about the standard to get into Harvard.
GPA (What do they look at? Weighted or unweighted?)
SAT (Using the Superscore, what should your score be, at least?)
TOEFL (Is 100 ok, for the undergraduated program?)
Extra awards (Can I include my 5th grade English Olympics, 12th place in Vietnam?)
Extracurricular (I don’t even understand what it is. What would you recommend to do? Charity, volunteer works, or…?)
What else should I include in my application?
If you had some free time to answer, I would appreciate your help.
There’s no magic formula, sorry. There are lots of places to look up the stats for the typical ranges of students they accept (try collegedata.com or any of the many published guidebooks), but being in – or even above – that range doesn’t mean you’ll get in, because they consider many factors, and reject an overwhelming number of qualified applicants.
Bottom line, if a little research suggest you might be qualified, go for it when application time rolls around, but do not by any means make it your focus. There are lots of great schools out there. Get the best education you can in HS, both in and out of the classroom, explore lots of options, and see what happens.
