What do you hate about UNC?

I don't hate anything.

Sometimes I find TAs to be kind of irritating, but this semester I've had no problem with that. Sometimes big class sizes bother me but I really won't have to deal with it much later down the road.

Parking. And I've come to hate the women's basketball team simply because they reserve an entire 5 level parking deck for 10 handicapped cars to park in during their games.

I'm still a first year here, but I just don't hate anything. I really sat here trying to think of what I hated about Carolina. I do hate 3:30 classes. But that's not really Carolina's fault. I hate that I had to defend its reputation my senior year of high school, and on this forum sometimes. Oddly I don't have to do that in the real world. Hmm. If I think of anything I'm going to respond to this.

yeah cloying i'm at my senior year of high school and i hate the fact that i have to defend Carolina's reputation.
its a fine college right, but no one in my school knows about it. All they see is a school ranked number 28th.

It's silly. Once you actually get here there's none of that, in fact it's the opposite.

its a fine college right, but no one in my school knows about it. All they see is a school ranked number 28th.

I think being #28 is not bad ....

I think #28 out of around 4000 schools in the US is amazing!

I think he said on another thread that he was from Pakistan. I could see people not knowing UNC from Pakistan.

u got it Sachmoney. ppl in pakistan only say congrats when someone gets into an ivy + stanford and darthmouth + top ten
other schools in pakistan that dont have students applying to US have never even heard about uni of chicago. "uni of chicago? who would want to go to a school which no ones's ever heard of?"

um....its a public ivy!

Dartmouth is an ivy.

According to my friend, the OOS vs. IS divide.

I want to hear more about the OOS vs. IS debacle. Is this really a problem? I mean the tour guide said "oh freshmen aren't allowed to have cars on campus because we want them to stay on campus." Was that BS?

its b.s.
anyone can park on campus, as long as your faculty or students.
usually, they give priority to seniors in parking, but they don't want freshman to bring cars for the congestion problem in campus.

I'm an OOSer and have never noticed a OOS vs IS thing. A lot of my friends are OOSers, but I have many IS friends from various groups and am dating a guy from North Carolina. So yeah, it's never been a big deal to me.

I believe it is true that anyone can park on campus in the evenings. However, that does not solve where to park your car during the day. Permits are required for most, if not all, available parking lots.

As a freshman, you will not be eligible for a parking permit. This does not mean you can't have a car; it does mean than you will have to find some place off campus to park it. Parking permits for upperclassmen are distributed by lottery (i.e all those who apply may not get a permit) and some of the lots are off campus. There are off campus parking options though they tend to be expensive.

The lots are not that far away from campus, if not, are IN campus.
They typically are a short walk away to your classes.
There is a lot right before the beginning of the campus. Just take a shuttle if a car won't suit you.

If you were a freshman living in a dorm, what would be your on campus parking options if you had a car?

"anyone can park on campus"
visitors, students, faculty. Indeed, there are parking meters and lots that are practically on campus.
I talked to various faculty members and they said it is not recommended for incoming freshman to bring their cars but they said its okay to bring them.THERE is a priority of upperclass vs. underclass for parking spots.
some examples on campus: Craige parking deck, jacskon parking deck, highway 54 parkin glot, etc
