the interviewer asks: WHAT OTHER SCHOOLS ARE YOU APPLYING TO?

i didn't expect that question so i was kind of caught by surprise... i just listed my state universities and city universities, is that alright?? i didn't know if i should have listed my other reaches/targets too so i didnt lol..

I've heard that it's good to list the less competetive, lower-tier schools you're applying to. It gives the message that NU is your "reach" school - the place you'd really like to go to. If you list Harvard, Yale, and Stanford . . . it might look like you're just applying to a bunch of selective schools to see who will take you. And whether or not that's really the case (I know plenty of people who do it), it's best to list your safety/match schools instead.

I recommend telling them where you have applied, but saying something like:

"While all of these schools have their own unique qualities that draw me to them, it is Northwestern which has really captured my heart, etc., etc."

^^ :-p I really think it's easiest to just list slightly less selective schools. If you listed state/city universities like you said, you're fine.
