My main common app essay is about how I made the decision to come out as gay to my mother who is a Methodist minister and how I ultimately decided that being truthful was ultimately more important than avoiding whatever consequences would arise from people (in the African American community) finding out that their pastor had a gay son.........

Thoughts on the topic, originality, interest-factor.....

If anyone would like to read it, I would be glad to send it over as I am still editing it down

Thanks in advance :)

well yes, it’s interesting and personal. I’m sure the story involves strong and complex feelings on the part of both you and your mother.

i’ll read it if you want to message it to me. (I’m the mother of a beloved gay teenaged son.)

As long as you’re not applying anywhere with a religious affiliation ;)

I would love to read your essay just for pleasure’s sake. It sounds like an amazing topic!

Btw, I know a few month’s ago, there was another poster here on CC who was African American, gay, and from a religious community. If I can remember his name, I’ll let you know. I feel like you two would have so much in common.
