What do you think happens when you die?

Sorry if this topic is a bit depressing, but all the famous deaths that have been on the news lately (particularly MJ's) have me thinking about the subject.

So, yeah. What do you think?

Eternal unconsciousness, like the part of sleep in between your dreams.

Hopefully God loves me and I go to Heaven :]

Uhh nothing, what happens when you go into a coma.

This topic rests on the assumption that I die. I do not die.

We only die because we accept death as an inevitability. ^^^

We’re CC’ers. Half of us (not me) have 2390’s on our SAT’s. Obviously we’re too smart to die.

:) For real, I believe in reincarnation. Can you imagine not existing? Course not. Because you always existed.

I can’t imagine the fourth spatial dimension either, but physics says there might be one and math works on it.

I think you are just unconscious… like your sleeping not dreaming. So basically… nothing. Call it depressing, but at least you aren’t aware that you are dead… its just kind of done.

What lockn said.

Eternal sleep…could be worse.

If I’m real lucky, God will accept my agnosticism XD

^ It’s actually really easy to imagine. Much more so than the 10 or even 11 dimensions postulated by M-Theory.

Braneworld scenario: 4th spatial dimension exists as the directional to another brane through which only the strings that make up gravitons can access (that is, these and only these strings are connected from our 3-brane - our universe as we know it - to the other).

http://www.math.nus.edu.sg/~matmcinn/picture/braneworld.jpg

Thought I should share, seeing as I finished Brian Greene’s Fabric of the Cosmos. That’s what I did instead of studying for my finals.

I think it’s eternal sleep too. I can’t help but think that we have a “soul” that lives on though.

Perhaps it’s as simple (and unfathomable) as a complete cessation of existence. Just because we can’t imagine not existing doesn’t mean that isn’t what happens. Look at it this way: if the subject wasn’t as complicated or obscure as it is, humans would have never devised religion.

Birth, life , death, re-birth.

You wake, you sleep, you dream, you wake up and can’t remember all of your dreams.

If you are “good” you wake up in a better place. If you are “bad”, things get worse.

If you manage enough “good” cycles, you get promoted. If you have too many bad cycles, you get erased.

New thread: What happens when you get erased?

“Jesus replied, 'With all the earnestness I possess I tell you this: Unless you are born again, you can never get into the Kingdom of God…Men can only reproduce human life, but the Holy Spirit gives new life from heaven…anyone who believes in Me will have eternal life…But those who do not trust in Him do not have eternal life, but eternal fire and damnation that was prepared for Satan and his cohorts”. --Jesus, from John 3:5, 15, 17. If there is a .00001% chance that this Jesus guy is God and speaks the truth, it might be worth simply praying, “Jesus, I know that the Bible says that by good works I can never be saved and that everyone has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. So, please forgive me for the bad I have thought and done and help me to act and live for You, Jesus. I want to be like You. I believe you died, are now alive and ask that you live in my heart. I love You, God.” Thanks for listening guys. I did this a few years back and man does it feel great to have Jesus drawing me to good people, good actions, and good thoughts. What a huge joy He is.

p=.0000001 there is a god apparently
number of gods that humans have believed in≈1,000,000
p=.000001 that you picked the right god
p=.000001*.0000001=.0000000000001 that god exists, and you picked the right one
seconds required to say prayer each time ≈ 30

I dunno, it isn’t looking great.

This is just as stupid of a question as asking which religion is right, or is there a god.

This question cannot be answered without knowing if there is a god, a question that cannot be answered, regardless of what some people may think.

The question you should really be asking isn’t a question about what happens when you die to the people on collegeconfidential, but rather a question to yourself every single day “did I live my life to the fullest today? Do I have any regrets about today?” If you live your life with no regrets every single day, with no fear, then no matter what happens in the end, you have made the most of your life and can and should be happy.

As far as my personal beliefs, I believe in god and heaven, perhaps partly because it makes the world seems like a better place and eliminates some fear of the unknown, and partly because the facts actually point me in that direction. And to be honest, if you live your life believing in god and in the end it turns out you are wrong, what harm has it done you? B/c for the most part the idea of a god is a comfort while you are alive, and his teachings lead you to be a better person to others and to have self respect. So even if I am wrong in the end, my belief in god will still have helped me live a better life.

An interesting fact to consider is that the idea of religion and the origins of Christianity Judaism and all other religions are ancient concepts, dating back thousands of years. If it is true that religion is a sham, why is it that we have been unable to break that one myth over the thousands of years?!? We figured out that the earth isn’t the center of the solar system, that the earth isn’t flat, that kings do not have a divine right to rule, so why exactly is it that we have yet to disprove possibly the oldest myth on earth that a god exists?

Why is it that amidst so many alternate theories such as evolution, the big bang, etc. religion still survives?

If so many plausible alternate theories were presented for any topic not involving religion, people would lose their faith in the original idea. Yet the majority of the world continues to believe in a god and heaven. Why?

Could it be that religion has survived for so long because there is a divine being out there keeping the faith in people?

Open your heart, lockn, only then you will get the right answer to your equation. He’s tuggin’ on yours, dude.

Absolutely nothing. Not even blackness, because you as a person cease to exist.

I find that belief extremely comforting - I won’t be able to suffer after death. This is why I don’t get overly emotional about death in general - it’s tragic, but they aren’t having any problems now.
