I am a sophomore in high school, and I got a 35 on my ACT in December. However, I did not do well at all on the writing portion (6/12; 30 combined english/writing score). I am thinking that I should take it again next year sometime to boost the writing score (though I would risk my composite score going down.) I am interested in fairly prestigious schools such as COlumbia, UChicago, other Ivy Leagues etc. Should I retake the ACT for a better writing score? Also, do you think it is necessary for me to take the SAT if I obtain a high score (34-35) on the ACT when I retake it?

No, your score is nearly perfect. You can demonstrate your writing competence in your essay. :)

I suppose you’re right. However, will a college look at my writing score and turn its nose up at it? Basically, won’t it look bad regardless of my other essays/scores? Or do you think they will disregard it if my admission essay is good? If I were to take the SAT and do well on it (perhaps not as good as a 35 on the ACT though), should I submit that score as well as my ACT score(35 + 6/12 writing)? I hope I’m not repeating myself too much.

hey sorry but i literally can’t figure it out… how do you start a thread on here??

Go to College search or another category, then click “New Post” (right above the main list of threads)

They know that you only had a few minutes to compose the essay. If the rest of your written materials are strong, I don’t think they’ll really care about one adequate score.
