Hey guys,
I have a 3.45 GPA weighted, a 30 ACT and a 1930/1290 SAT. I've taken 3 AP classes.
I have tons of community service hours, won an award for it too.
I'm tennis team captain, played all four years, swim team co-captain, played all four years
I will be Senior Vice President this coming year.
I work for Habitat for Humanity as an intern this summer.
Also, I'm of Indian descent if that makes a difference, from Tennessee.
Thanks so much!

i like your odds big guy, my girlfriend got in with a 1680 with a B average out of state

The 3.45 weighted GPA worries me: 2/3 of Penn State’s admissions process is based solely on high school GPA. Your other aspects are good though. I would suggest applying as early as you can for the best chance of admission.

Thanks guys. The GPA really does worry me too. I fell victim to a poor freshman year. Do you think there is anything I can do to make that less important? SAT II’s perhaps? Also, 2 of my 3 APs are my senior year. How important is that?

You should be fine man =] just apply as early as you can because admission is extremely competitive!

Is the 3.45 your weighted gpa?

Oops - yes weighted.

My unweighted gpa was around there, too. Just apply early! And write the “optional” essays, too.

Thank you, that makes me feel a lot better.

I’m getting scared, I know my test scores are good, but I’m just really scared that my GPA and rigor will bring me down significantly. These are my other fit schools right now, any you think are too much of a reach or easy get-ins? Thanks again, I really appreciate it!

Northeastern
UConn
NYU
University of Michigan
UMass
Villanova
Georgia Tech
UT-Austin

It’s really hard to chance you since we can’t see your actual transcripts, but from that list i’d say that northeastern, Uconn, and Umass are your more “safe” schools. The others are really competitive (people i know have 3.7+ for the other schools), but it would never hurt to apply anyway if you have the money to. I heard that NYU really focuses on the essay.

What do you plan on majoring in? The business school is normally harder to get into. Have you considered University of Wisconsin and University of Maryland?
