I'm really nervous about not getting any aid.

My parents combined salary is 70,000 without taxes taken out. we have little assets. i do not work unfortunately.

do you think the efc will be kind to me?
be honest, what do you think my efc will be, based on personal experience or just an educated guess.

It will depend on other things such as your parent’s assets, the number in your family, and if any of your siblings are in school at the same time. With just one student in the family and no assets I would expect your FAFSA EFC to be a little over 10,000. That is too high for federal grant aid such as the Pell (which requires an EFC a little over 5,000). But you will be eligible for federal loans.

The EFC does not necessarily mean that is all you will pay. Federal aid is very limited so many people have a gap, meaning unmet need. Whether your need will be met, unmet, and contain all loans or will include aid other than loans will depend on the school and their policies. If you are attending a school with generous institutional aid then you may receive grants direct from them. If you are attending a school that only awards federal aid then you will probably only get loans. For instance at an Ivy you will probably get generous grants from the school itself. From a state U that offers no institutional grants you would probably be looking at loans.

thanks! i appreciate it

Talk to your parents about how much they can spend each year on college.

What schools are you applying to?

Most schools do not have much aid to give even if you have a lowish EFC.

From your other thread…

*okay so my SAT is defintley better than act
2010/2400 1330/1600 I re-took it and I think my score may have went up a bit.
however my subject tests are dismal
math 1 - 580
us - 570
i really dont know what happened.

my act is a 29

for the schools that require sat subject tests and SAT (i.e, bu,nyu, fordham(reccomended))*

I’m concerned that you’re going to be gapped big time at these schools. Are you applying to any financial safety schools? NYU gives awful aid. Fordham won’t meet need and I don’t think BU does either.

collegemom i responded to your PM. thanks :)

bump

I would unfortunately have to agree that NYU, BU and Fordham probably won’t give you the aid you need. They are expensive schools that don’t meet need and give most of their aid to their top and diversity candidates.
