The schoolwide ratio is about 3:1. At the frats (during parties) it tends to be better, approaching or exceeding 1:1 depending on the occasion. Some houses, like you suggest, have their monopolies, but as far as I can see they are all better off than those who choose to remain independent.

Fratastic-what fraternity are you in?

Not SigEp. That's for sure. We don't like their kind.

Abercrombie is not preppy there, buckaroo. Take the gel out of your hair and go try actually playing a round of golf.

Personally, I don't understand how Abercrombie is considered preppy anywhere. It's all high school overpriced trash in my opinion, but people still wear it. What is especially tacky is wearing it with big bold letters on a t shirt. Screams "tool" to me. Here at Purdue, it seems like American Eagle is the majority at frats. Not that much better then Abercrombie, but whatever. I prefer RL.

we dont have frats :)

From what I've been able to experience so far, there's really only one true reason they join a fraternity. The reason is simply because of girls. In fact, I know girls here that will only go out with guys in a fraternity.

idk, most guys tend to think that frat boys are a bunch of dbags, though ive met some that go both ways

really you dont have to deal with them , you just use them for their parties for the free booze and social atmosphere

Fraternity = Brotherhood

Lifelong friendships, anyone? In the presence of so many great friends, everyone has a great time. Fraternity parties are awesome because they are all of my best buddies on campus hanging out. And if some hot chicks want to come, that's cool.

Haha, I know what you mean about SigEp...I'm in a more southern style fraternity too...although I'm not from the south I kind of like it

Creatures I don't associate with that belong to soulless parasitic organizations that prey on vulnerable people.

Ok, fraternities are different on every campus, and every fraternity is different on a campus. There will be frats that treat women like crap, there will be frats that treat them well. I'm in the latter. But I can say that when I joined a frat the access to girls question was a VERY low consideration compared to the fellow guys that I would soon call my brothers. People who join frats just to drink or get girls are idiots, fraternities are all about building friendship sthat last for your whole life, and if parties and girls happen to follow that, so much the better :-). But I think it is unfair to stereotype all frat guys as "bad".

A couple of things:
AFPrep850-You are the definition of a GDI and just opening yourself up to being ostracized. Do away with initiation? Are you serious? Fraternities can't exist if pledges, or "New Members" can't be initiated.
Indian: A&E isn't fratty. It never will be. I seem to remember , however, that you were concerned about people stealing your ABERCROMBIE shorts, now you hate it? Good to hear you like the Horse.

Polo is fratty but beware. You can't just wear polo, seersucker, croakies, vinyard vines, etc and expect to be fratty. In a general sense, Fratty is orwellian, that is, if something becomes known as "fratty," it probably isn't.

SigEp is apparently supposed to model what a fraternity should be (balanced man program). A lot of people think (including me) it's ridiculously stupid.

Wow.........

I admit I don't know what ran through my head when I typed that post. I should've thought about how I phrased every sentence in it. But if you really remember, I said I wear their shorts; people can't really distinguish between abercrombie shorts and something else. What I don't wear is their shirts, that plainly advertise abercrombie. I just don't like it. Up until now, I've only found one pair of shorts that I like, and they are from abercrombie. My point is, I would buy something from there that I can't find anywhere else, and only if it's not screaming their brand name.

Anyways, I hardly ever see people wearing anything but abercrombie/a&e. Majority of frats wear northface and the above; its weird how a&e is so popular here. Back in st. louis everyone was an abercrombie/hollister fanatic, with a large minority of RL/(I don't think I ever saw a Lacoste shirt in my school lol).

I plan to go to OU next fall, which is very greek.

But as an adult student, my olny goal is to get an education. No parties, dates, or screwing around so honestly i have no intention of even associating with a frat.

you join a frat to pay for pssy, friends, and parties.

No you join it become part of a brotherhood. It's a feeling much like a sports team, but at large D-1 schools where you have to basically be all american in HS to be a varsity athlete, fraternities offer the same type of closeness. In fact, at my school (Michigan), many varsity athletes are in houses (except from the football team because Brian Griese *****ed that up). Anyway, "pssy, friends, and parties" are just benefits.
