What Do You Think Of My Chances?

So, I've already applied to all of my schools, and I've been accepted early to two, but I wanted to know what you guys think my chances are of getting in to the other ones?

My cumulative GPA for the past 3 years (not senior year) is 3.75.
I am ranked 51 out of 441 kids (top 11.5%).
My SAT score was: 2160 (660 Reading, 720 Math, and 780 Writing). I didn't send my SAT to any schools though.
My ACT score was 33 (34 for Reading, Math, and Writing, and 28 for Science.)
I've taken 9 AP classes, 3 junior year and 6 senior year. I got a 5 on the AP exams for APUSH and Psych, and a 4 for English Language. I'm taking AP Calc AB/BC, AP Human Geo, AP Euro, APES, and AP Lit this year. I've taken 4 years of French. All other core classes that I have ever taken have been honors.
I had all A's Freshman and Sophomore years, with 2 A's and 6 B's junior year, and right now I have 3 A's, 3 B's and 1 C this year (in Calc). Although, it is important to note that my school works on the 7 point system and not the 10 point system, so a 90 is a B and not an A. If my school did do the 10 point scale, I would have had 1 B junior year and 1 B this year (no C), with about 3 B's being borderline (89.4 and so on).

I am not a US citizen, but I am a US permenant resident. I'm a white female, so no minority. I plan on being an English or Journalism major.

I have been a member of many clubs. My major clubs have been the Interact Club (with which I do a lot of community service) for 3 years, the Environmental Club for 2 years, the Book Club for 1 year, and the French Club (I am the secretary of the French Club and work hard to keep everything in order) for 3 years.

I have already been accepted to Appalachian State University and Wingate University, and am waiting to hear back from:

Elon University
Wake Forest University
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
New York University
The University of Chicago
Northwestern University
Brown University (I'm pretty sure I won't get in here, but it was worth a try).

Also, I've applied in the UK to:

Durham University
The University of York
St. Andrews University
Warwick University
University College of London

So, do you guys think I'd get in? Where and where not?

Elon University- target
Wake Forest University- target
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill- low reach
New York University- target
The University of Chicago- low reach
Northwestern University- low reach
Brown University (I’m pretty sure I won’t get in here, but it was worth a try).- reach

I don’t know anything about English universities, sorry.
Chance me back?

If you were an American student I would say you should have no problem getting into any of those schools on your list, with UNC NWU, Chicago and Brown being the tougher schools to get into.

Since you are an international student, however, competition is a bit stiffer… Nonetheless I think you have very little to worry about! I’d say you could relatively easily get into Elon and probably Wake. The other schools are a bit up in the air, but very doable. Just write some good essays and I think you will be very pleased!

Thanks Alexis. I hope that happens too. Sure, I’ll chance you back :)

Thanks CGB. Of course I’ll chance you back. I am an American student. I’m a UK national, but I live in the US.

I think that you should have a very good chance at all of the colleges except The University of Chicago, Northwestern and Brown. The University of Chicago and Northwestern are probably about 50/50 and Brown is a longshot for pretty much anyone…

Yea, I know I won’t get into Brown, but I figured it was worth a shot because you never know. LOL. And thank you :)

Hey-O! A fellow North Carolinian! I might go to Chapel Hill, too! Pretty good chance at all of them except Brown, UChicago, and Northwestern. Yeah…but, like you said, you never know. You might surprise yourself.

I know I’ll probably end up going to Chapel Hill, and I love it there, so I’d be happy :)

Congratulations on getting accepted to those two!

I think Wake Forest and New York university are good for you. I don’t know anything about the other schools.

I know that wasn’t a good “chancing” but at least I tried.

Haha, its all good Aspire. Thanks for answering.

I think ad2011 is pretty correct. Pretty good/great chances at most of the schools you listed, lesser chances at UChicago and NW, even lesser chances at Brown. But 4 for 7 is still pretty good, especially when all of those schools are pretty good. I’d choose NYU out of the bunch.

Good Luck! And chance me back!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1073723-one-last-chance-ucs-ut-uf-umd-will-chance-back.html

I don’t know about any of the UK schools but I’d say all of the others are perfect targets for you. (the exception being brown)

Since no one has responded to this part, I will.

As you probably should know, UK universities judge applicants based on academics. Your downward trend doesn’t seem that good (correct me if I’m wrong) and since you did not list any English/Journalism related ECs, this does not bode well for you.

UCL is probably the hardest to enter and it’s a mid-reach. I’m not too sure about the rest but they’re probably matches to low-reaches.

I’m sure NYU would accept you, not sure about the rest of the schools as I’m not too familiar with them.

Thanks guys. I’ll chance everyone back if they want me to. I’m happy with 4 out of 7, or, hopefully, 6 out of 7.

Student ID number (LOL): Thanks for responding to my English unis. I thought grades would be a problem too, but St. Andrews and York have already responded with interest, asking for more specific essays and recommendations and such, so I’m taking that to be a good thing (although it could be bad, who knows?)

Thank you everyone :)

I don’t really have any idea about schools in the UK, sorry, but I think your list of American colleges is reasonable. I believe that Brown typically needs a 3.96 cumulative, but, since you go by the 7 point system, your 3.75 isn’t bad. I’m not sure if colleges can recalculate your grades based on the 10 point system or not. Being an international student, it might be a little tougher, but I’m sure you can handle. You have a great SAT score, and a challenging course load.

Brown & Northwestern might be kinda tricky, but the others should be fine.

Thank you SuperN. I’ve heard that schools which are used to seeing grades based on the typical 10 point system are more lenient when they get a school report that says the school works on a 7 point system. I guess it must be like I described. I have an 83 in Calc, which would be a B, but at my school it is a C. I hope its true. I also think that since my high school is ranked 2nd in the state, I might have worked harder to maintain the same or better grades than othr applicant. Maybe I’m too hopeful. LOL.

I would put uChicago and NW as low-reaches, that sounds about right. Brown is a much higher reach because your EC’s seem a little on the weak side (according to the info given). The other four with those SAT scores should be no problem for you. Maybe we’ll be together at uChicago next year, who knows! Best of luck.

Thank you Hotchie. And maybe, you never know :)
