Last night, I received my SAT II scores: 770 USH, 750 Lit, 620 Math II
My SAT I: 1940

My current plan is to prepare for the ACT and take it in September. Like many others who don't do so well on SAT, the ACT may be a stronger test for me.

Then, I will retake Math II and maybe a Science Subject Test in October instead of retaking the SAT I. This should work for Early Action timing.

But what do you guys think? Is this a good plan? I am shooting for ivies, Boston College, Boston University, UPitt, UArizona, and one other honors college.

This sounds like a good idea, especially trying the ACT. Since you already have two good SAT II scores, you probably don’t need to take a science one, unless you are doing engineering or something. Taking the Math II over agian is also a good idea.

Don’t take a science unless you need to, but retake the Math II.

Let me just say that you are gambling here. You are betting that the ACT will pan out better than the SAT. Practice tests aren’t the real thing. If you are absolutely positive you will do better, then go for it. However, realize that you have taken the SAT, you are familiar with it, and you know what you need to study and what your base score is. It’s a risk.

If that’s your first time taking the SAT, maybe you should consider taking it again, rather than switching to a different test. If you don’t do well on the September ACT, maybe retake the SAT in November. It would be too late for EA, but not for RD, just in case.

“For someone reason, I am afraid if I don’t apply as early as possible I will get picked over.”

BAD reason to apply early, unless the school fills their quota from yours early (one of HYPS did this to our school this year). The early pool TENDS to be better overall than the normal pool, so it’s not as if it were an advantage to someone who is not as qualified (not saying that you aren’t) unless it’s ED.

I will tell you right now that I feel I am a little below average for the ivies. So what you are saying is that applying RD might be the way to go for me for those?

(I will be applying for some full ride scholarships at other non-ivy schools, for which I will have to apply EA)

You don’t breakdown the SAT I. I sense that the math score is low.
Pracetice that and retake the SAT I. Also take the ACT (with writing). You need to do much better for the Ivies.
