What do you think of the writing supplements for Wake Forest?

I’m supposed to get this in by midnight tonight and I am having major issues with the sect question lol

I like the supplement questions. The common app essay topics are so tedious and generic, but these help applicants show their personality more, I feel.

Generation Y is a really tricky question.:(

im on the last prompt about the “Sect”. Does anyone know how flexible they are with it? Does it have to be about religion/related to religion or can “sect” refer to a group of different individuals or cultural differences?

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “If I know your sect, I anticipate your argument.” Describe a time when your argument challenged a basic belief or viewpoint of your “sect.”

It’s probably confusing to you because it is confusing and a little pushy (the assumption that you’re part of a sect to begin with). The admissions office should rewrite it as follows:

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “If I know your sect, I anticipate your argument.” Describe a time when your understanding of another person’s “sect” helped you anticipate its argument and mediate your response to it.”

ok

it can be rewrite as
describe a time when you challenge a viewpoint that the group of your people share?
so such as, Irish usually likes bland food, and as AN Irish i do not like bland food something like that.

^^ for the photo I just copy pasted a twitter link. They can look it up if they care enough lolol it was a lame question

FOR THOSE STUMPED BY THE SECT PROMPT (like I was) For the sect prompt, I talked about how I follow the principles in my sect because I understand the reasons behind them, and how I do not simply blindly follow them. I’m most stumped by the tweet prompt. I have no idea how to accurately describe myself in 140 characters! My top ten list was about my top ten favorite places to be.

I’m applying for Fall 2015 admissions at Wake. I don’t understand the “Choosing civility” prompt and how do I do the tweet aspect.Help needed ASAP, my Common App is due tomorrow.

Wake Forest is one of several schools my son considered. By any measure it was a match/safety for him.
However, it also requires a very lengthy application with number of mini essaysm We considered the process as not worthwhile. All the best to you guys,

Pearl98, something along these lines is probably what the admissions committee is looking for. About you without being all about you. Incidentally, I had to lower my confederate flag half staff to write this. That may sound duplicitous but I really do believe 99% of it and look forward to talking to you at Wake.

The greatest threat to civility is the presumption of civility. Am I really talking to my fellow earth citizen as an equal human being or is some privilege I’m heir to—material, intellectual, athletic, tribal-- patronizing our transaction? Asking myself this question reminds me to listen and respond more selflessly, to respect individual differences, and to value the other’s narrative of challenges and of strengths. And what there is to value! Courage in the face of tragedy. Equanimity in the face of chaos. Forgiveness in the face of injustice. Meaning in the face of alienation. The list is endless, and I learn from it: there is inspiration in every person that lives.

Suggestions for improvement welcome btw.

Oh, and as for that “tweet aspect,” wonder how the admissions office would take to a Craigslist format? Something like

“18yom of the old school seeking LTR with good college. Open to challenge and new ideas. Philosophical but fun. Shower me with essays. d/df”

Hey thanks a lot at least that will spark an answer for me, are you a prospective or current student?
