What do you think of this. any comments?

I took my sat in oct and got 690 v and 760 m then in nov and got 660 v and 800 m. i didnt rush my score but i just send my score to princeton anyway... i called to ask to see if the drop will hurt, and the officers said they only take the highest scores... so its okay if my verbal dropped...

but this is what michele, the past admission officer of darmouth and the author of a is for admissions, said in an email:

"If you just don't have it rushed, it probably won't reach Princeton in time
anyway. Early is very compressed. But if they do see the scores, they
won't be thrilled that they've gone down.

As for the 690, it is about 40 points below their average so it really
depends on the rest of your application. I can't say without seeing the
whole package. They are up 10% for early this year so it may be tough."

apparently, she thinks that the 30 point drop will be seen negatively while the pton admissions officers told me its okay..... what do you guys think? i hope it wont affect it by much, but i did get a B in eng 10/11 hon accelerated in grade 10, but an A in eng in 11th grade.. so eng is my weak point.. writing score was 740.. i just hope michele is wrong. but she seems to be very experienced with princeton... :(

Well it's not going to help you...I mean what can we say? I don't think it'll hurt you that much.

it's just from her tone, it seems to be a very bad thing theyve gone down.. and from what she said, princeton actually looks at trend in sat grades. but what i heard is they only take the highest and record it and not look for trend... but then again, officers are notorious for not telling the truth...

Yeah, well at least it's out of your hands, you know? there's not much you can do about it

Exactly. There's absolutely no use in worrying about something that's completely and totally out of your hands. Rejoice in the fact that it's all over! I mean, unless you're retaking in Dec. or Jan., you're through with standardized testing...for now, heheh. But yeah, definitely don't fret over the scores. What's done is done and at this point it's just getting through the wait and seeing the final results, y'know? Good luck!

i could try and call cb and tell them to cancel my princeton score report..

but i remembered on wed, i called to ask about my file, the officer said its complete, meaning all sat scores are also in.. so are they just using my oct scores and not knowing that i took nov one since my scores are complete anyway? weird...

ohh. can u actually request cb to not send ur score? hmm.. i guess you could do that... 760 and 800 isnt much of a diff for math anyway.

I know you're really nervous, but there are other parts of your application that are more important than your SAT scores. They will be looked at in combination with your grades and course load, and you will be rated on a 5 point scale for your academics. That is why a few points variation either ways does not have that much of an impact on the final decision. Every admission officer I have talked to says your transcript is the most important part of the application.

Do you have some strong EC's that are going to help you?

Princetonwannabe~ I doubt it's going to be a deciding factor in your admissions. While your verbal is 40 points below p'tons V average, your math is 70 points above the math average. Heck, I'm flip flopped your score with an 800 V, 680 M, and I'm not too worried about it. I don't think they'll reject you based on that 690 verbal (and while they do see trends, ultimately, all admission officers care about is their overall average in SATs, and they really do take the highest). You're in the range. It's whatever else you've brought to the table that is going to decide your admissions.

Haha. Hey, and if we both get deferred come December, wouldn't it be fun to do a tag team SAT? Together with your 800 M and my 800 V.... we shall be.... invincible! ;-)

Yeah, I'm a flip-flop of you too, ptonwannabe - 800 verbal 690 math, and I'm not worried either. Is your SAT II Writing score higher than your verbal score? That will help - I'm counting on my fairly high Math IIc score to carry me through. But even if it isn't, 690 is still respectable. Besides, I'm of the persuasion that after a certain score, SATs no longer have any bearing on your app - I think they're more like a prerequisite than anything. And you've met that point, my dear, so I wouldn't be too concerned. :)

I had a minor flip flop of 10 points
I got 770 V 740 M first timr
760 V 750 M second time

yeah. my other sat 2s are writing : 740, phy 780, math 2 and chem 800.

for my ecs, its on prstats with user name of xtc. sorry, they wont let me post the link somehow.

sorry about the spaces.

thx a lot for your replys. c_j, lol.. thx a lot for that too :p

Looks like your verbal score is the only weakness in your application, which is why you're worring so much about it. You have a typical profile for a student who's strong in math and science. Most students like you have verbal scores that look low compared to the rest of their profile. I wouldn't worry about it.

does anyone here think that his/her scores don't really reflect ability?

mine
800 math
760 verbal
800 chemistry
790 writing
780 m. bio
770 spanish

okay, that makes me seem like a math and science student

yet i hate math and science and do much better in english and language and put down all humanities related majors and certificates. oh well

Looks like you're good at everything. It's generally more difficult to get a high verbal score thatn it is a high math. There are more 800's in math than in verbal, especially for males.
