wow, thanks! I hope that really happens!! I thought I was pretty borderline..we'll see :) any other input?

you forgot to mention your SAT scores which is a very important factor

O you're right..I completely forgot!! 1910

Due to the fact that you are an instate applicant, I believe that you will be accepted. : )

To the contrary, I think that you will face an uphill battle getting in. Your rank - top 15% - will work against you in the admissions process. Your high GPA seems to indicate nothing other than rampant grade inflation at your school. Your SAT score as it is would demand a fairly solid rank. While you may well get in, I predict something along the lines of a waitlist. Good luck, though, and keep us posted.

shes in state... of course shell get in

Instate is actually pretty competitive, at least at my school. Ashley, I would say that your chances are about 50/50.. and the grades at your school are definitely inflated, so the rank might hurt you

chaudoinker, your comment suggests a lack of familiarity with instate admissions. Applying with a rank outside of the top 10% and an SAT score that is below average for instaters does not make one particularly competitive.

chaudoinker posted as an OOSer in another thread and i think OOSers generally think of ISers as having it easy, which is not the case. i mean, if you're a top student, you'll most likely get in, but a lot of people are not shoe-ins at all.

everyone says their school is competitive. i think everyone needs to just stop attempting to justify their rank.

soccergrl, that sounds about right. It's still very easy for instaters to get in (top 10%, 1300+), but it's not as easy as some OOS'ers thing it is.

comflsomh, that's how I feel. Everyone seems to think their school is something special...

yeah, some people think anyone can get in if they're IS, which is not true.

i agree too about competitive schools. it seems like every person on here thinks their school is an "extremey competitive public". i think there are probably few "extremely competitive publics" in the nation though. there are smart kids everywhere. unless someone's school has national or international recognition, it's probably not as competitive as they think. no matter where a person is, they should strive for the top of their class.

just out of curiosity, what is your school ashleylauren?

I realize there are many competitive schools and many people feel this way, but I can assure that mine is among those and recognized that way. Thank you for all of your advice though guys. I appreciate the honesty...:) (also just as a side note-my school is known for not having inflated grades) thanks though everyone :) any other imput is fine/welcome...

i guess you guys are right, i do think in-staters do have it easy, i should have gotten my facts right first, i apologize
as for ashley saying her grades arent inflated, how do you explain the 1910 on the SAT?

harsh...
in my opinion there is a difference between being an intelligient, motivated, high achieving person and performing superbly on a 4 hour test. Not to say that doing well on the test doesn't indicate you are intelligient, but not doing well doesn't rule it out either.

hey ashleylauren, where do you go to school? I go to school in va and the only widely known competitive school I know of is TJ.

TJ doesn't rank due to the competitive admissions into the school, so she is not a TJ student.

I do not feel comfortable sharing school info on the net, but I can assure you that the school I go to is recognized as being very competitive,...especially my graduating class. Thank you for all of your opinions...

Also just in response to my SAT scores..first of all, a 1910 is in the range and secondly, SATs are very different from school..(not to criticize the SATs, but they are very different things and that is why they have both of them)

Thank you guys though for your honesty/support...any other students stats/opinions/stats of those who received the 'letter'
