What do YOU think will happen to you?

I keep seeing chances threads...I thought it'd be interesting for everyone to grow some balls and make predictions on the forum for everyone else to see. When the time comes and we finally find out, we can post whether we were right or wrong. Tell the truth and try not to put "i don't know;" even if you think you're going to be rejected, there's always a chance, but let us know what you REALLY think that letter (or online decision) will say. People that post after someone else: feel free to comment on their predictions for themselves if you want.

UTexas (McCombs) - ACCEPTED

I love this! I've been posting my stats all over the place, and what good does it actually do? I hope no one on these boards would choose not to apply to a school simply because a few people told them they didn't have a shot.

Current College - University of Colorado at Boulder

Here's to having some convictions about something.

Oh, and Brand, isn't UChicago more concerned than most schools with the essay? Why would you think you'd be rejected?

Current College - LAC ranked in the 80's
Projected GPA - 3.7-4.0

Applying to:

Harvard - REJECTED
Barnard - REJECTED
Smith - ACCEPTED
University of Texas at Austin (LibArts) - ACCEPTED [?]

I'm not even sure if I'm going to apply to those schools save UT. My parents might pull the you-can-apply-but-we-won't-offer-any-financial aid-info stunt again.

If you are in at Chicago, you are probably in at Georgetown. I think the former is more selective than the latter.

brand, I'm also curious: why do you think you'll be rejected at UChicago? Are they less friendly to junior transfers? I ask because your stats are great, UChicago is relatively transfer friendly, and they heavily value the essay, which should be good if you're a frequent CCer; in other words, someone who typically invests time into his/her application because he/she values gaining admission.

Well, Chicago was kind of the only school that I was thinking "maybe," but in the end, after seeing the drop in the transfer rate and the kind of people getting rejected last year, I have this gut feeling that I'll be rejected. I could be wrong...but that's just my guess.

marta - I agree with nspeds. If you get into Chicago, you'll probably be in at Georgetown (as long as you're not applying to SFS).

Ohcomely - I think you will get in at all of those except Harvard.

Current College - U. Houston

Applying for what standing - Sophomore
Intended Major - Economics; for Cornell (Int'l Agri and Rural Development)
HS GPA - 2.9 UW; 4.2/5 Weighted; 126/700

Applying to:

UCLA - I do'nt even know if it's possible cuz im a freshman, even tho i sophomore status through the number of credits i got coming in. anyone have any clue on this? i'm fairly confident i'd get in

any thoughts/advice would be great. i'm also trying to get more involved into some stuff i enjoy doing, like playing chess/painting, but i don't nkow if i'd be able to produce anything tangible on an application by the time i turn these in.

bump.........

Imran, the first thing that came to mind when I saw your post was Stephen Colbert's White House speech where he talks about going with "the gut"-truthiness =).

In all seriousness, I think you stand a good shot at WashU depending on when you apply, however I'm not at all sure about Brown considering the craziness that was last year's transfer rates.

Current College - Western Michigan University

Applying To:

NYU (Stern) - Rejected
University of Michigan (LSA) - Rejected

I hate where I am at and both schools being where I want to be; however even with a good college GPA, I don't think I'll get in. I'm not really confident I'll get in, but I am putting all my effort into my GPA and my applications.

Cvjn - I honestly think you'll get into Michigan LSA. If you really want to help yourself, consider retaking those ACTs one more time so that you can get them up closer to 30. I believe Mich may be like Cal in that it likes CC students most, but your GPA is excellent and I really think you've got a shot.

Excuse me, but I never understood what it was meant by CC students?

I also talked to them, they said not to retake the ACTs. When I took practice ones; I had gotten 33s on them, but the day I took the ACTs, I was at the hospital all night, and couldn't concentrate and actually fell half way asleep...

And when signing up to take the ACTs again... I was whisked away overseas for random times so... ummm yeah. It never really gave me a solid chance anymore and yeah.

Any idea about NYU? It's my honest to God dream school.

CC = community college. Most state schools (even the best ones like Cal, UMich, UVA) have transfer agreements so CC students get top priority in transferring, even over students at other public schools in-state.

For NYU, I believe it is doubtful without good SATs. Starting this year, NYU has required SAT I (or ACT) scores and STRONGLY RECOMMENDED two SAT Subject test scores. It couldn't hurt to try, but if you're wanting to go to Stern (for IB/Management) you'll want to do everything they ask you to.

And you'll want to take the pre-reqs...unless you're wanting to go to CAS for Econ instead or something, but I'd still say you'd need to do the subject tests like they ask to have a better shot.

here's some more info about NYU...
If you are applying as a transfer student and you took either one of these tests while in high school, you should not retake the tests now; simply submit the results of your high school SAT I or ACT examinations.
Well, actually you shouldn't retake the ACTs for NYU I guess. But I did anyways, and the admissions guy said send them in b/c "he can't help but see them." As for SAT IIs though, I hadn't taken them in high school and....
We encourage all transfer applicants to submit the results of two SAT II subject tests.

If you're lookin at Stern:
Applicants for transfer admission should have completed (or be in the process of completing) the following courses in order to receive serious consideration for admission: microeconomics, calculus, expository writing, and introductory accounting (a combination of managerial accounting and financial accounting totaling at least 6 semester hours).

http://admissions.nyu.edu/applying_for_admission/index.php?page=special_program_requirements&category=transfer

Ahh okay, thanks.

Yeah; a huge thing was that both UMich and NYU both told me not to retake my ACTs and take SAT IIs because of the fact that I'm in college already.

mmmk, thanks a lot.

Yeah, I've been basically loading up on the pre-reqs, and probably gonna be heading into Sophomore year w/ around 36 credits. I know I got all of the pre-reqs that my school is allowing me to take, mostly because they don't have, or cause I'm only a Freshmen - (some are Sophomore courses)

well if you've spoken with NYU and they said not to, then I would take their advice over mine.

Good luck!
