What do YOU think will happen to you?

Wow! Great thread. This is so much fun reading everyone elses predictions and my own.

Yeah JCampbell I think you will get in to those places but what is Cal U, i mean like what campus if its california.

Of course I have to add my list.:

Harvard: Reject
Yale: Reject
UPenn: Accept

WUSTL: Accept
JHU: Accept (they accept people from my CC because we are in MD too)

(I forgot to add Rice: Accept)

Hey Deeneaus, back up the bus for a second. Is Pitt really, really selective for your program? I honestly don't know -- but I thought GW was more selective than Pitt.

Current College - A mid level UC

Applying to:

Cal - Accepted
USC - Accepted

I'm confident in my chances at these schools.

That's an oops on my part. I had another school there, but changed it...or something I don't know lol. I would think that George Washington's program is a bit harder to get into than Pitt's. I haven't done enough research into any of the schools yet to really give an educated opinion of my chances, (which is really bad) but yeah...

Cornell: ""
Yale: Rejected, but, combined with a better SAT and legacy like crazy, maybe?

If anyone has any suggestions for other places to consider, I'm all ears.

Brand, I had some confusion about the SATII's also but they actually follow the same rules as the SAT and ACT. If you are at least a sophmore than they advise you not to take them. From the NYU website forum:

"SAT Subject Tests are not required for transfer applicants and you should not participate in these exams at this point in your educational career."

Yeah, I was kinda confused when determining whether or not to take them, but ultimately I chose to take the SAT II tests as well as give the ACT another shot after I'd graduated. I had received the same info that you are pointing out, but I couldn't get over the fact that, at the same time, NYU "urged" all transfer applicants to submit subject test scores.

I also used the NYU forum and asked an advisor about it. He/she said that, ultimately, if I had the time to take the tests, it would be beneficial to my application because, although they may not "officially" be used in the decision, those making the decision on my application couldn't help but see the scores.

I feel better having good scores sent in. If they only glance at the scores for a moment, the fact will be in the back of their head that I, with my CC education, can do very well on national tests, and should fair well at NYU if admitted.

For those transferring from an already semi-competitive university, I really agree with what the NYU site says. Grades received at a 4-year university should typically be enough to prove your intelligence. For those like myself that are applying from a CC, I still believe sending in good test scores can give your GPA more credit in the eyes of admission officers.

Edit: I planned on linking to the discussion I'd had with the NYU admin officer on the NYU forum, but it seems that they've cleaned out their old questions as there are only 2 pages of questions now. I wouldn't worry too much if you don't submit the tests...it seems like there is a lot of variation in information given out at NYU, or they at least have been receiving more questions about it lately on the forum and are leaning more towards telling students just not to worry about it. Still, what's done is done and they're getting those damn test scores. :D

Yeah, I think it can only help you to take the tests (that is partially why I just took the ACT in October). I don't think it will hurt you though to not have them. Do you think a composite of 30 and writing 10 is high enough for Stern? I am signed up for the ACT again in December but I am not sure if it is necessary.

yes I think a 30 is fine for Stern. It's well within NYU's overall range of 27-31, and I imagine Stern is nearer the top of that range, so you should be competitive.

a 30 should be high enough

Cool thanks. Honestly even if you had said no I probably wouldn't retake it. LOL

bump............

Current College - CCC
GPA - 4.0 through 3 semesters. 15 hours, hardest curriculum possible

Applying for what standing - Junior

HS GPA - 3.8. Graduated with Honors and a handful of AP's.

Applying to:

University of Mississippi -accepted (in-state, so I pretty much HAVE to apply)
Mississippi State University - accepted (same as above)
USC - Rejected if they look at my ACT and not college performance
NYU (Stern) - Rejected (No SAT2's, low ACT in HS)
Indiana University - Accepted

I don't know how much those ACT scores are going to hinder my chances at those schools, specially English not being my first language (and only learned 6 years ago). It all depends on each school and what they look at more in transfer applications ACT/SAT or recent college performance. USC is by far my most preferred one though.

Rijeos, where are you from/where do you go to school now? I'm at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Gautier, Mississippi.

You have a very good chance at Emory, Deeneaus. Emory accepts a very large number of transfers...

Deeneaus, I go to Hinds CC up in Pearl, MS, though I live in Brandon, MS (close to Jackson), around 3 1/2 hours away from the coast. I'm actually from California (fresno, CA), but moved to MS the summer of my senior year. And now I want to desperately go back to Cali, though my chances look pretty ugly at the moment.
